Re: Botched Roadsigns
If I take this sign literally then does it mean I can only turn left at weekends?

Does it not mean that you would need to turn left to reach that well known destination of "Weekends only", at which there happens to be parking?Gram587 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 16:12 If I take this sign literally then does it mean I can only turn left at weekends?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Surely "only" indicates the lack of a through route. The turn on the left leads to "Weekends", where there is parking and tourist information. There is no useful through route beyond "Weekends" to any other destination.Jonathan24 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 18:00Does it not mean that you would need to turn left to reach that well known destination of "Weekends only", at which there happens to be parking?Gram587 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 16:12 If I take this sign literally then does it mean I can only turn left at weekends?

Of course at the time of the picture it's even more wrong, as you can't turn left there due to roadworks. You should have taken the previous turn (where there's no sign at all).
Re: Botched Roadsigns
No, thankfully - because it is a direction sign, so it doesn't tell you that you must or must not do something. It just tells you what there is in the direction indicated.Gram587 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 16:12If I take this sign literally then does it mean I can only turn left at weekends?

So turn left for "weekends only" and presumably right will take you to any day of the weekChris5156 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 00:59No, thankfully - because it is a direction sign, so it doesn't tell you that you must or must not do something. M62 jct 11. Not sure the A574 has ever been primary at any point. The one on the opposite slip road is more correct and hasn't got the silly abbreviation. https://www.google.com/maps/@53.4350041 ... 312!8i6656

Re: Botched Roadsigns
This one on Somerset Avenue annoys me. "Wells A371" above the roundabout arm, and shouldn't RAF Locking been in red? (while it was still operational)
Also the A370 ahead is primary, but I don't think it always was, so the white panel just shows the sign's age. And the brown panel once said 'Tropicana' - it closed in 2000, but could it be uncovered now since the Tropicana is reopen and hosts events?
Coming the other way, it isn't too bad but makes the same mistakes and no brackets for (M5).

(Apologies for photo quality)
Unannounced Tyne and Wear Metro extension to Durham! A temporary sign as part of roadworks on the A690/A691 junction in Durham.

Ahh yeah, the B1188 is now a primary route / dual carriageway with those widths!

Six Crossroads Roundabout - I'm willing to forego the pedantry to just be slightly miffed that there's something missing from this ADS. A pretty...armless mistake?

Sorry, but there's something wrong with your link - that took me to Five Crossroads RoundaboutSkermington wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 14:02 Six Crossroads Roundabout - I'm willing to forego the pedantry to just be slightly miffed that there's something missing from this ADS. Apart from that - which way do I go for the A322 if I'm not driving a lorry?
There's a few odd lorry signs at this junction - for example this one. For non-lorries heading for the M25 via the A320, it's this way. But lorries need to take... exactly the same road.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
This would have been so much more economical.
The less said about the visibility screen and how much more it will have cost instead of some bushes, the better.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I missed that until you mentioned it. A row of huge all-grey sign faces on poles. Feels a bit like someone tried inventing a fence, not realising they already existConekicker wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 21:30The less said about the visibility screen and how much more it will have cost instead of some bushes, the better.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
If I didn't know better I'd say that was a badly made fake sign for a movie or television show!
Meanwhile, in Whitfield, there is this sign on the clearly primary route Honeywood Parkway through an industrial estate. There are a few more throughout the area.
And in Hawkinge, this sign that relegates "Channel Tunnel" and "Ashford" to local destinations, and misses off the green patch for the (unsigned) A20.
My journey with testicular cancer!

M56 Jct 10 / A49. First one taken a year ago. Second one today. New Inland Border facility sign has been added therefore the Happy Guests Lodge sign has moved to the left hand arm but still pointing right! Also Orchard Meadows pointing left on the right arm !
Re: Botched Roadsigns
I thought that best practice now was only to signpost the places at the roundabout exit, and not have right-pointing signs directing you further round the roundabout. If so, more than half of those could have come down rather than add new ones to the pile!

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I'd not heard that is the current policy but it makes sense! The other exits here are awash with them https://www.google.com/maps/@53.3337599 ... 384!8i8192
In fact the eastbound motorway flag sign has been sitting on the floor here https://www.google.com/maps/@53.3342031 ... 384!8i8192 for over a year.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
That's always been the case. Only in unusual circumstances should right pointing flags be present.
