Re: Botched Roadsigns
A few oddities from a recent excursion:
Another priority-less junction warning sign, this time a crossroads.
You'll have to take my word for this one, as the StreetView car hasn't been past for 3 years. It kind of makes it worse, as it means it's a recent installation. But at this point, you will encounter a 520 rather than a 516.
I mean, this is an accurate reflection of reality but design principles thrown out of the window for this one.
I can't recall ever seeing "Except for loading and unloading" before.
Where to start? First of all, I can't see what the point of the sign on the left is for, with this being a dual carriageway. I'm also not keen on the inconsistencies between FC and F.C. (pedantic, I know! ). Thirdly, should be brown, rather than white? And lastly, no disrespect to Hertford Town, but it's hardly Old Trafford, the Emirates or the...City Ground
Just unusual I guess!
Size differences for destinations, I'm fine with really. Space constraints, I don't see a major issue. The oddity is the completely different set of destinations for exit one on the ADS, compared to at the roundabout itself!
And lastly, it may be my eyes (and/or StreetView stitching), but I've always thought there's something oddly condensed about many of Welwyn Garden City's Give Way signs.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
There does seem to be inconsistency about sports stadia. We've discussed on this thread before how Castleford Tigers are on a non-tourist white patch on a brown tourist sign.Skermington wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 10:05 Thirdly, should be brown, rather than white? Meanwhile Sheffield United is a tourist destination but Sheffield Wednesday isn't.

Lots of bizarre stuff there! But isn't the first one just a pre 1975 cross roads sign.Skermington wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 10:05 A few oddities from a recent excursion:

Re: Botched Roadsigns
That was my original thought, but considering its location it looks fairly new, and more importantly, not a contender for the Manky Signs thread! Possibly another incorrect like-for-like replacement.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Ugh I hate those lane signs that duplicate the destinations like that unnecessarily. Of course your sign is so much better.

Tamworth
There are, in fact, two low bridges in the direction indicated, neither of which is of the headroom shown on this sign - the first one reached (3 3/4 miles away) is 13ft 3in, the second is at 13ft 9in.
You don't suppose someone thought "let's just take the average of the two"?

Yes, the logic is completely backwards.Nathan_A_RF wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 17:14 Ugh I hate those lane signs that duplicate the destinations like that unnecessarily. Of course your sign is so much better.
It's like the sign is saying "Where can I get to from this lane?" rather than "which lane do I need for Wakefield?"

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Hmmmm!!! Caernarfon, Caernarfon, Caernarfon...
Approaching from Porthmadog, drivers for Beddgelert A4085 are signed off the A487 at the very grand GSJ on the relief road. All well and good (and not incorrect given there is no right turn into Constantine Road available outside the Eagles) until one reaches the ADS on the slip road.
At that point it's revealed that the exit is in fact for the A4086 for Llanberis as shown on the ADS. Not that you'd have known that beforehand. "No matter! We'll stick a minuscule Beddgelert sign below the ADS." respond the local highway authority. "But, just to be even more unhelpful, we'll send 'em up the A4086 as opposed to the correct route, i.e. the U-turn back to the A487 and Constantine Road".
I've always been a little curious as to why Caernarfon demanded such an impressive GSJ in the middle of town to filter the motoring masses off to Llanberis. Maybe the topography simply lent itself to that layout? It's particularly remarkable for a road to pass through a highish-quality GSJ in its favour when the same road resembles this not 400 yards away!!

Botched, rare and manky in one sign!
So I'd be allowed to drive a car or lorry up there?

If you can fit it through the gap in the railings then go for it ... no point in banning something that is physically impossible!the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 13:54No bicycles or motorbikes?jervi wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 21:20 https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4431595 ... 312!8i6656

Missing a NSL sign, due to the road being subjected to lighting, the speed limit is 30 once passing the end of motorway signs...

Presumably only a problem for delivery drivers, removal men and the bin men.

These horrors are on the A50 at Meir Tunnel, Stoke on Trent. The effect, whether the makers intended it or not, is to suggest that the speed limit here is really, REALLY 30mph.

Some clever individual ordered 600mm roundels to cover over 750mm roundels. Why they didn't just replace the signs is anyone's guess. Isn't the 30 because of the repair works to the tunnel?Klepsydra wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 20:24 These horrors are on the A50 at Meir Tunnel, Stoke on Trent. Re: Botched Roadsigns
You wouldn't normally place the road markings if it was a temporary situation. None of the four 30 signs are correct.Bryn666 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 21:27Some clever individual ordered 600mm roundels to cover over 750mm roundels.
