'Bar-B-Q' is particularly horrid isn't it? "BBQ" would be perfectly recognisible if an abbreviation is needed.

Or, perhaps, a symbol of an obviously male figure wearing a chef's hat, standing over a barbecue-shaped object, holding a set of tongs in one hand and a bottle of beer in the other?
Re: Botched Roadsigns
If it was in Lancashire it would be one of those £1.99 disposable things and an entire moorland region on fire for three weeks.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I would improve the signs on the M1 heading South by signing Nottingham & Leicester as the largest places between Sheffield and London should be signed better and from further distances on the M1, so I added them to this sign at J41.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Ignoring the fact that the RCS you mention is grossly out of position - it's just AFTER the southbound EXIT slip, instead of the ENTRY slip!), why haven't you also mentioned the other Primary destinations before you get to Nottingham?
Rotherham, Chesterfield, Worksop (at a pinch) and Mansfield.
Between Nottingham and Leicester why have you omitted Derby and Loughborough?
Nottingham and Leicester are "south" so does adding them to the RCS at this point aid navigation? Remember that once they are mentioned, for consistency they must continue to be mentioned, so what effect would this have on subsequent RCSs?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I wouldn't sign the other PDs at this point as they are not needed at this point and Rotherham traffic would follow Sheffield til Rotherham appears on signs. Also I don't want to end up with RCS like the Northern half of the M40. I would sign Derby,Chesterfield,Worksop and Mansfield after J33 or J32 and Loughborough after J27 as I think that they aren't needed North of Sheffield. I believe that signing Nottingham and Leicester from J41 southwards would help navigation for South of Sheffield traffic & it would allow for the signs on the 1999 section to replace London signs with Sheffield. On RCS between J41 & J35 the only change would be the addition of Nottingham & Leicester and south of J34 the only affect would be the addition of Leicester.
Re: Botched Roadsigns
Anyway, in my opinion, this sign at Hook Moor is bad (like the rest of the RCS on the 1999 section) . No mileage for London,No mention of the M62 ,No mention of Sheffield,Wakefield & Barnsley.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
There are more than a few questionable signs on the section from Bramham to M1 J42.
Patience is not a virtue - it's a concept invented by the dozy beggars who are unable to think quickly enough.
Re: Botched Roadsigns
That's very subjective - why are they not needed? And why is Leicester needed on signs near Wakefield? Should Wakefield appear on signs around Leicester?

Notice this https://www.google.com/maps/@53.6355082 ... 384!8i8192 surely John Smiths stadium should be a brown sign.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Irrespective of why they aren't white-on-brown like most other major sports stadia... why are they (and their Galpharm Stadium predecessors) black-on-white rather than white-on-green?Rambo wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 16:34 Notice this https://www.google.com/maps/@53.6355082 ... 384!8i8192 surely John Smiths stadium should be a brown sign.

And even more pertinently, why is Huddersfield's non-eponymous stadium being signed 6 miles from Huddersfield when Huddersfield itself appear on every primary direction sign?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
It may be that the "non-eponymous" bit there is relevant. If you were going to "Huddersfield Stadium" then in the absence of signs specifically to the stadium then it would be reasonable to follow signs for Huddersfield ... but if you're going to John Smith's Stadium then that is not so obviously in Huddersfield. It may be that the stadium is used for more than just home-team sporting events and so the signage may be relevant to more people than just those going to watch a Huddersfield match who might easily guess where it was.Bfivethousand wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 20:42And even more pertinently, why is Huddersfield's non-eponymous stadium being signed 6 miles from Huddersfield when Huddersfield itself appear on every primary direction sign?

Hi!
It may be that the John Smith's Stadium doesn't meet the visitor and attendance criteria as specified in the various rules for specific brown tourist sign provision, in which case it would be signed in black on white as an ordinary local (non–primary) or white on green where reached predominantly along primary routes!

Hmm, I dont really buy that, very very few stadia in this country are named after any team that happens to play there. I know the John Smiths Stadium holds the occasional music event but even then, most visitors would be conscious that it's predominantly a sporting arena that is home to two Huddersfield-based teams.Stevie D wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 22:35It may be that the "non-eponymous" bit there is relevant. 6 miles is a pretty remarkable distance to sign a stadium which is home to a second tier football team and a mid-table rugger team and which is less than a mile from the town centre. I'd only consider an exception somewhere approaching that sort of distance where a stadium is some distance away from the centre of the town in question - or in a different town entirely! Milton Keynes Dons (the MooKamp, in Bletchley) or the Ricoh Arena on the very edge of Coventry are reasonable examples.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Given M62 J25 and the A62 into Hudds from Cooper Bridge can't handle normal volumes of traffic let alone a football crowd, Kirklees have gone to great lengths to direct traffic from J23 and J24 instead. The colours are wrong because... Kirklees. They get all sorts wrong.Bfivethousand wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 01:42Hmm, I dont really buy that, very very few stadia in this country are named after any team that happens to play there.
