CONCEALED ENTRANCE

Given it's Dorset, my immediate thought was red border = MOD. That seems unlikely, so could the sign be courtesy of British Rail/Network SouthEast?

Whoever put it there, it shouldn't be red and it shouldn't be a flag.

I know the TSRGD now prohibits it but I seem to oddly prefer it over the newer version.

As an example:
the version I like that's now not allowed: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.25778 ... 312!8i6656

The exact same sign with the new configuration (SM was installed): https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.25781 ... 312!8i6656
I definitely prefer the new design. By clearly associating the arrows with the sign text, it is much easier for drivers to see which lanes go to which destinations. With the old design, the distance between the arrows and the main panels combined with them not being in the same plane, meant parallax errors could confuse drivers as to which lanes were associated with which destinations.
Don't get me wrong: in terms of signage quality and intelligibility, the new one I like 100x more. But I'll miss one of the last few remaining examples of the old style signs when the M1 19-23A signs are changed.

Not the worst thing I have seen, but grammatically very poor.

On the M5, West Brom area, in the roadworks. Red warning sign for the workers with the following text (I can't recall the number):

Caution xxx width restriction apply.

Is it me or is this sign on the non-motorway A14 in motorway font?

First we have the secretive A14(M) spur (I don't even know what's happening to it when the new A14(M) opens) and now a junction smack in the middle.

When the new A14M opens, what will happen to the old secretive spur? Will it just become part of A1M?

It'll become the A1307(M). Might even get signed as such. All of the existing A14 between Swavesey and Alconbury becomes the A1307 (with a small section of B road in Huntingdon where the viaduct used to be). The Spittals-Brampton section becomes the A141. But that's a matter discussed in the A14 thread. Doubt that botched sign will be fixed though!

A15
It is even more botched than you think; the A28 isn't anywhere near Surrey (it runs between Hastings and Margate) - probably meant to be the A281?

It is A281, perhaps a number has dropped off?

Didn't even notice that it said A28... I was more referring to the ahead, right, ahead, right configuration of the sign was confusing.

I think we covered this before - St Ives Bridge has a weight restriction for cars and bikes. Clearly says no cars. But it's OK to cross in anything weighing more than 3 tonnes MGW.
I don't know how anything of that weight and therefore size would get through the gap at the other end.

Aha!

That's the one I saw on New Year's Eve, but couldn't remember exactly where it was so I couldn't report fully on it!

Thanks!

And it reminds me that these signs, on the A338 in Bournemouth about a mile apart from each other:
https://goo.gl/maps/fx59TJN9gZmKoGzV9 https://goo.gl/maps/TsphG1k1qoCtiXRo8
isn't quite in the right font, but it isn't Motorway either.

It's the '4' which is really ugly. They've been like it for yonks.

More than likely but travelling through time on Streetview it is like that in every years image.

Hmm, perhaps they ran out of "1"s when making the sign and never got round to fixing it :D

A problem I typically encountered in my childhood when I made direction signs out of Letraset and which would doubtlessly have ended up on this post since I had to use Helvetica 😁

The restriction, as I understand it, is to reduce conflict, and potential damage to the historic bridge.

The reason for the exception is to prevent vehicles too large from needing to turn around.

The second link is a bit misleading as it’s looking “the wrong way” (because for once the StreetView car wasn’t naughty). But even so, you’re right that some vehicles would need to bump onto the pavement.

St Ives again: all routes this way but it's a dead end . I assume the dead end sign is intended only to refer to going straight on at the junction but it's not as clear as it should be.
