Before the A14 was re-routed, the ADS sign approaching from Royston was in far better nick, but:-Al__S wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 20:54 I must go and get a picture but this horror has only got worse with the re-routing of the A14
1 - Why was Huntingdon abbreviated? and
2 - Didn't this just make a mockery of the principle of diversion route signing?

Hey, you've just equalled my record in finding 8 of the 9 possible diversion symbols in the same place. And I think beaten it, since mine were on two flag signs while yours are on a single sign.Bfivethousand wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 11:36 Before the A14 was re-routed, the ADS sign approaching from Royston was in far better nick, but:-

Thicker lines for more important roads?
Also not impressed with the crash barrier on wrong side of posts landslide(?) protection.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
It's an ugly sign, for sure, but yes, primary A-roads get thicker lines than non-primary A- and B-roads, which get thicker lines than unclassified roads.swissferry wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 22:37 Thicker lines for more important roads?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Reading BC at it's best if you're going to mess up signing, lets do it in style.
150 yards west of the junction.
150 yards east of the junction, not as clear.
However on the minor arm bingo.
But Reading BC can even beat this, I did post this during lockdown in January on the Facebook Pages which I photographed on a cycle ride, but it is now on Streetview. Have you ever seen a cross road with two give ways and two stop lines!!!!!!!

The A1(M) appears to run right through the middle of Welwyn Garden City
Before that though, do you go left or right for the motorway?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I guess carinal directions? not something british roads tend to go for though.
But it does run north-ish in both directions from that junction

Re: Botched Roadsigns
True but changing between N/S and W/E repeatedly would be very confusing, especially for drivers not familiar with the precise course of roads in the area. Similarly M1 is still signed N/S at junction 33 even though it runs W/E at that point. For drivers heading to Alfreton or Lutterworth it should be obvious S is required not N. Offering W or E would be no help at all.

Jumping back to 2008 on GSV shows it used to be attached to an old signal pole, and seems to have just been unthinkingly moved to the new one when the signals were replaced.MotorwayGuy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 00:21 TfL at its finest - this botched 40 repeater mounted to a traffic light pole:

London has a real problem with like-for-like replacement of terrible signs and markings.

There are some roadworks around Bushbury in Wolverhampton at the moment, but the yellow signs talking about diversion routes spell it Bushberry.
Make poetry history.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I don't know if this has already been featured on our hallowed pages, we have had a few examples of flag signs masquerading as ADSs but here we have an ADS masquerading as flag signs!
And what of the Midlands town mentioned here which it seems is no longer deserved of being defined by a proper noun

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I think that actually is an ADS - although somewhat lacking in the "advance"! There's no other advance sign from that direction.
Also this sign claims the road to the left is the A142, when every other sign says A1421 - though (A142) would be correct as it does lead to the A142.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I've never liked this sign south of Baslow on the way to Bakewel and Matlock. It lists six destinations followed by "avoiding weak bridge". It's not clear which destinations this applies to and for which this is the direct route.
