Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Do you know what the destination below Angel would say, and also the final, missing one??

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Shoreditch looks to be below Angel, not sure about the bottom panel which appears to have been deliberately painted over when the right turn was banned. Central London perhaps?
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Definitely Shoreditch beneath, it is a lot more readable in the older images.
Bottom panel has never been present on Streetview so can't do lazy Google archeology to check.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
You’re already in Central London! Signs of that era used junction names within the inner ring road, so Holborn Circus is the best bet for the right turn, and possibly Bank.crazyknightsfan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2019 02:04Shoreditch looks to be below Angel, not sure about the bottom panel which appears to have been deliberately painted over when the right turn was banned. This one is on B4176 near Ackleton. It's in great condition on that side, but the other side is rather rusted.

Sometimes the best items can be on your doorstep but hidden from general view. This turned up on Flickr yesterday, my only one with the ring on top to complete the no right turn we got here which has now been removed, the last one in Britain.
It also looks like the pole has been regularly painted.

Here's a nice one near me that I only found a couple of days ago. The road it indicates has been the A4125 for a good few decades now!

Being near me as well I found it some years ago, and have never seen another photo of it. I did however see it in Police Camera Action when they chased someone past it on TV. It's still doing its job.Chris5156 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2019 00:38 Here's a nice one near me that I only found a couple of days ago. I don't think this old A65 sign in Ilkley. West Yorkshire has ever appeared here before. It is situated on The Grove (B6382) by the park.

It's definitely online but always glad to see when they are still there. I drove a mile next to one recently I forgot about as I didn't realise the village was on the same road, planning to go back at the weekend.
I'm guessing my Northwood one went up at the time but here it is again in case.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
This is an odd one. On close inspection the letters do seem to be Scotchlite or similar, which I think arrived in the early 50s, and was painted over but can see where the paint is wearing off. The sign and font look a lot older than that so am now curious to know if stick on letter date back that far as normally they would be standardised unlike raised letters which weren't standardised till the 40s.

I should know where that sign is, but I don’t.DavidNW9 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 20:06 This is an odd one. They are Ryt On the A45.I have passed these so many times and not seen them !
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
That probably explains why I’ve not seen it - you need to keep your eyes on the road down there!!
Looking up and down on Google, I’m still stumped. The imaging is terrible (for foot-height signs), but many of the shots were taken in the autumn or spring when there was still lots of foliage around.
Also not many places where a foot-height sign could be fitted...
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Found it!!
It was actually in Main Street, which explains why I’d never seen it. Not far away though.
