RAC and AA often made pre-Worboys signs to order. This looks pukka.

First though. It does look pukka.

But I don’t ever remember seeing one with the “restricted parking zone” underneath before.

Did such things exist pre-Worboys?

Second thought - on close inspection, originally I thought it was on an old black and white striped pole, but it’s a modern one with a big sticker on.

I think it’s a modern repro, too clean and there’s something not quite right about the type face.

Weren’t most (or all) of the old car park signs slightly embossed?

Whatever, it’s certainly a curiosity/talking point. :D

Given it's got channels on the back and no piercing of the sign face at all, I think it's a reproduction.

If you go back to Street View in October 2009, there is what looks like the original sign (in worse condition) with no panel underneath.

North Yorkshire, in fact (though historically in the West Riding). NYCC seem to treasure their historic signs, while I rather doubt that there are any left in modern West Yorkshire.

I found a bunch of lovely old private and council signs in Enfield today, but the lower of these two is a conventional p-W direction sign, albeit to a cricket club. If anyone thinks it should be downgraded to a council sign I will move it but it is very rare.

I've put this here because i'm 90% sure this is pre worboys. Noted on the road to Mouldsworth off the A56 near Frodsham.

They did, but not in Franklin Gothic. That’s definitely a modern reproduction.

I've posted this before at Preston on the Hill but actually got up close to it the other day. It's definately not in it's original form as the pole looks new ish. It also says Chester on the back but is obscured by the pole.

There is a discussion on the charabanc sign somewhere, probably on Flickr. It was certainly painted but can't remember if it was so old it chose its own font or not. The Chester sign is a perfect pre-1933 direction sign I've never seen online till now, and extremely rare. Besides the font they continued in that format till 1964.

I have completed the S Gloucs trip, the bad news was the final from ten was just replaced to Ingst less than a year ago, but now have the full set of what is now nine. The Arrow flag was overgrown and I had to cross the road to even get half the place name on it.

I visited Shropshire for the first time as I found it was a mine of p-W signs, it's far too big to do more than a couple of places at a time, and sadly my favourite one in Ironbridge was long gone before I went yesterday. But I spotted one I'd missed in Studley was on the way (literally) so after two badly damaged examples I now also have the only intact 15mph (X2) in Britain. There was another one allegedly in Bridgnorth but after three walks round it on Google and one in person there wasn't even a trace of it pinned to an old shop wall.

I've started collecting PW signs since lockdown began (pretty much with all the money I'm saving in not having to refuel the car... long may that continue :driving: ). My most recent purchase is a Shropshire ADS - there does seem to be more on the market from there and the Marches than for any other part of the country (my other directional sign so far is from Powys / Montgomeryshire)
