Pre-Worboys preservation campaign

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
I spotted this nice back-to-back pair of NO ENTRY and OUT at the shopping parade in Chinbrook Road, London SE12.
The NO ENTRY one is rather bent, which is a pity but does show us the back of the embossed 'T' of OUT.

Here's one I saw recently in rural Surrey for the tiny village of Eashing.

Old RAC Parking sign in Worcester City Centre, and a fantastic column and lamp too!

My god, how did that lamp survive. There's another column to the right but it has a modern SON lantern

These two in Leominster must have been on here before I suspect.

Yup, I think I did them. I visit Leominster most summers when our orchestra is playing here - sadly not this year. But it must have been so long ago that I'll forgive a repeat appearance.

There is also one, as i discovered by chance recently along the B5395 between Whitchurch & Malpas just on the England / Wales border. It isn't in the best position to photograph unfortunately.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
A lovely haul in Dorset today. First I found this one on Streetview no one has discovered before as it's in a small suburban road.
And while on the way to this one I found another I hadn't got (I don't think there are any others in England except possibly one in the far north) adding another tick to the boxes.

I thought I'd found another on initial passing, but now I've seen it close-up, I think it's a strange home-brew. Certainly doesn't conform to the usual 'Headroom' standards of the era!

This one on Barn Hill in Stamford, complete with red triangle.

Where is that? It must be pretty unusual to sign a "limited" headroom of over 20 feet - what are they expecting that could need that much clearance?traffic-light-man wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 19:07 I thought I'd found another on initial passing, but now I've seen it close-up, I think it's a strange home-brew. Regent Road in Liverpool. I initially assumed it was warning of the Overhead Railway, but I can't be certain of that. The docks in this area are bordered by old brick warehouses that are now residential developments, so there's no other obvious overhead obstructions.SteelCamel wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 11:06Where is that? Great to see. Shame it's nearly as far from me, and there are quite a few around that area as well.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
It's not in it's original location though if that counts. Although still nice to see. I think the farm owner is a bit of a sign collector.DavidNW9 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 17:12Great to see. Shame it's nearly as far from me, and there are quite a few around that area as well.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
These are something I barely remember if at all, a matching pair in Northants, only used when required and the flap turns over to reveal a sign on each side, having the benefit of preserving the fronts as they are protected from the weather. However the floods signs seem like Transport font to me while the others are clearly pre-Worboys. Sign one has striped poles but that would apply to the brakes signs anyway. Any ideas?
Here is a recent one I found to compare.
Flood sign by Michael O'Donnabhain, on Flickr
A little more research showed me the current F has both horizontal legs equal like the E, so confirms its status. It was confusing as it is thicker than usual but the font is still the right proportions compared to the more square current one.

Yes but seems to have been recently painted. The odd shaped ones were made by county councils rather than the national designs, as it says on the bottom.

A wee small one I noticed in Eastwood, Notts over the weekend (Ironically I was en route to buy a pre-Worboys sign to add to my collection)
