Pre-Worboys preservation campaign

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
There's still an intact Schools sign with red triangle on the A694 near Ebchester towards Consett.
I've found it on Google Maps but can't provide a link. I understand screen shots are not allowed on this site due to copyright reasons.
Any ideas how I can do this?

From Streetview there is an option to "Share or embed image" - this gives you a link that you can put into a post here.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Thanks Chris, I'll give it another try once I'm able to locate it again.
The sign was still there earlier this year even though the school itself is long gone!

Sorry, Google Earth won't work on here , it has to be from Streetview using the same method. I've tried finding the sign but can't spot it myself.Focus 2 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 23:56 Here it is.

It works fine for me. Just give it 10-15 seconds and you should see it.FleetlinePhil wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2019 08:57Sorry, Google Earth won't work on here , it has to be from Streetview using the same method. Ah, sorry, you are quite right: it will in fact work if using Chrome. For any other Firefox users, the GSV link is here.Octaviadriver wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2019 10:21It works fine for me. I couldn't get the image up through Streetview for some reason. I could on Google Maps but couldn't find a way to copy the link. I could on Google Earth though.FleetlinePhil wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2019 08:57Sorry, Google Earth won't work on here , it has to be from Streetview using the same method. I thought "STAND FOR SCABS" was a most unlikely factory gate sign but then realised it identified a "Stand for 5" Hackney Carriage "Cabs".traffic-light-man wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 21:49 I found these two today whilst driving about Wirral. Not sure if they've been posted before.
I was particularly fond of the reflectors still existing in the Chester sign!

B94 near Ballyclare
Interestingly, if you take it back to 2008, the sign is not there. So was it being held somewhere? Incidentally the B94 itself is a great drive.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
A lovely set in Caistor, and they look like new. One question, why not have two places on one A46 sign instead of two separate ones? Is there an obscure rule I don't know about?

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Apologies if this has been discussed before on this thread, but I encountered this privately-erected sign here while out birdwatching yesterday evening. In fact there is now one at each end of the outbuilding on the left in GSV, and I will leave others to pass judgement on their legality as this is a public road. Sorry the photo isn't sharper, it was in rather low light, and I don't seem to be able to get it to show in the right orientation.
I can only find references to the sign for school children, so am I right in thinking this design is a modern pastiche, or did this sign actually exist?

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
That is indeed a dodgy modern replica. The text is in Arial, a font that that was designed in 1982.FleetlinePhil wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 07:54 Apologies if this has been discussed before on this thread, but I encountered this privately-erected sign here while out birdwatching yesterday evening. Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Cheers. I knew the typeface looked modern, but I thought they'd caught the spirit of the pre-Worboys figures reasonably well. There is now a quite steep plastic speed bump located pretty much where the GSV camera was - I am wondering whether the householder has installed that too!Chris5156 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 08:36That is indeed a dodgy modern replica. Some of the streetlights are now LED, still attached to the wooden posts, although it appears to be the familiar Calderdale "half a job" at the moment. It does seem slightly odd in such a deeply rural spot.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
I just found a few stragglers in Northants, 1/2 were still there and another planned west of them shortly.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
I was there on Monday, still there and looking like new.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Noticed this in Axmouth last month but was unable to stop for a better look. However, if you look back on Street View to 2009 you can see it was in such bad shape that I'd guess it was probably beyond repair and the current one is a replacement. If that's the case it's pretty good.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
This beauty turned up beyond Northampton this week
which also meant I could keep going and get this one in the middle of nowhere.
