This one's popped up on Sheppey, at the end of what was the former A249 over the old bridge (demolished now).

It's wooden, so not sure if that would count as a proper pre-Worboys sign or not!

(The site that mentions it is here: https://www.remotelondon.com/elmley-cem ... t-village/ )

Ones like this could be really hard to verify. Although it still could be pre worboys.

Apologies for the phone photo, but I remembered to stop and grab a shot of this lovely example.

Some you win, some you lose. This is the legible version of a sign which became illegible in Mildenhall by 2015, and had vanished along with one of the poles when I went at the weekend.

Cattle crossing- perfect example.

Soft mud, probably painted by the coastguard or local council. More a civic warning sign than an actual road sign. Pre-Worboys signs were sometimes made on wood, a few are on this thread, some had plastic letters screwed on, some with studs, but always copied the usual format otherwise.

Not sure if this is genuine or a fake?

Definitely the pole is not original

As it shows a satellite I'd guess it's not entirely original!

They've also mounted the red finial upside-down - the circle-in-triangle was for HALT or STOP signs and the triangle was supposed to point downwards. Given that a genuine finial would have a mounting to attach to the pole at the bottom only, it wouldn't be possible to unwittingly mount it upside down. I reckon this is a modern reproduction made by someone who liked the idea of an old-fashioned road sign, but didn't know enough to get it right.

A fair point! I actually thought it was supposed to be a level crossing as there is a railway down that lane. It must be someone's attempt at 'don't follow your satnav'.

I came across this one, warning of the A10, near my home https://goo.gl/maps/1eGaNWSK3BQr5Hfw8 (just west of the junction of Latymer Road & Harrow Drive) - despite having lived here all my life, I've never spotted it (possibly because I only ever drive east down this road, I was walking this way for the first time when I saw it).

I am surprised the gap was closed that long ago, to be honest.

Glad it's still there, and of course required. The pale lettering was red and has faded which is why it looks different from the rest as it always was. I missed a dual carriageway turn left in Hampshire by not that long a while ago and there are no others left as far as I know.

Fantastic survivor! It does make me wonder if there are any hiding off the beaten track locally to me waiting to be discovered.

I'm almost certain these will have been shared previously, but I thought they'd be worthy of a share (again).

I absolutely will own up to looking at that so briefly that I dismissed it as a road name plate, having already gone around the one-way loop in order to grab snaps of the other ones over the bridge...

I did as although I knew it existed I couldn't figure out where it was after long searching. It was only when I mapped my photos I spotted it by chance. I won't be returning though for that alone.
