A corker. I wonder if this is still there as GSV only goes up to 2016.

I often wonder why the green on old primary route signs from the 1960s and 1970s like this one is like a dark blue-green as opposed to the mid-vibrant green of newer signs, and also why older primary route signs tended to be smaller and decayed more easily? Does anybody know when this changed? I think it was sometime around 1980 give or take a few years but aren't 100% sure. Signs that were installed in the late 1980s generally look the same as signs installed today. Another thread here suggests the current colour guidelines were issued in 1982.

Yes i've noticed that. The older ones like the one i posted are quite considerably darker. But i've also noticed newer signs can sometimes be a mid or lighter green.
For example this one i think had 1996' on the little label on the back of it and is a sort of mid green https://www.google.com/maps/@53.3916494 ... 312!8i6656

But these at the same roundabout appear to be lighter https://www.google.com/maps/@53.3927437 ... 312!8i6656

Noticed this one yesterday - probably been there as long as the picnic area (which has been there as long as I can remember!)

And there was a pre-Worboys 40 very close to it until quite recently!

Manky sign in Stafford which I'm sure looks worse because of the patching.

The nice thing about GSV is you can go back to the older imagery and see how the sign has deteriorated over the years.
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?

The change was from non-reflective backgrounds using Scotchlite or similar lettering to the whole sign being reflective - this changed the properties of the entire sign and started to become more and more a thing from when BS 873 came out in 1983.

This one has gotten much worse over the years: https://goo.gl/maps/UrxFGLLmP5DhJmc66

This junction was realigned and signalised around 2003 when the building of the houses started and it never lined up correctly afterwards, especially not the one from Croesnewydd Road, but that is not even there anymore, but can be seen back in 2009/2011 images.

There is this street sign in Folkestone that has seen better days.

This direction sign for the A2033 has recently been replaced with a newer version.
