Beautiful! The thick blue-bordered one is at least 44 years old and not looking bad for its age.

I wonder what destination is underneath 'M. Keynes'?

We've had this one on Twitter and we couldn't figure it out either.

The sign is old enough to pre-date MK too, so it's not just a typo being fixed.

It looks long enough to be "Towcester", but there are probably places closer that would also fit.

I wouldn’t rule London out. There are a few signs with London on around that area on the A5.

Apart from London being signed immediately below it for the M1. I can't see it being anything else than Towcester - the only other place that might fit perfectly is Dunstable, but I think that's too far away from this point. Daventry and Rugby are too short for the space, but then given the weird difference in font size for the B577 destinations, I guess anything is possible.

Odd that it’s “London (M1)” but “Motorway (M69)”.

It has to be post-1976 as that’s when the M69 first opened, so I’m not sure whether that means it predates Milton Keynes. MK would have been up and coming by that time.

Seen in Kingswinford. Seems to be some kind of low cost sign as has deteriorated rapidly since 2009 as seen on the history.

Sadly there's not much left of it any more.

Approaching this remote crossroads on the Warwickshire/ Northamptonshire I wondered why this spot was such a tourist hotspot it needed four brown tourist signs. When I got there I realised only one was a brown tourist sign and the others had (since GSV passed by in 2009) just gone a very rusty.

As the A5 is a Primary Route, would it have to be a Primary Destination? I don't know what the rules on destinations were prior to the Guildford Rules. The only Primary Destination on the A5 would have been Dunstable. I don't think Towcester has ever been a Primary Destination, but I stand to be corrected.

I'm sure I've posted this before... :bang:

It will be Dunstable at High Cross. I had a similarly old sign replaced nearby along the A5 a good 20 years ago from which a 'D' could be revealed from underneath a screwdrivered M.Keynes plate.

I imagine these were installed pretty soon after the publication of the 1964 Signs Regs. Trunk road signs were generally pretty consistent in terms of route continuity 50 years ago when direction signs were nice and simple.

I wonder if this one is still there at M6 J38?

All the approaches to this roundabout have reasonably old signs but this is the mankiest.

Ewwww, also shouldn't the right arm be primary route?
Surprised it's that bad since its directly outside a HE depot.
Looking at the M6 to the north, what on earth is that bit of S2 connecting both of the carriageways, can one legally do a u-turn here? SC motorway?

I saw these today on the M4 eastbound approaching Coryton/A470 junction.

Another 14 months since the street view together with a dull day and they are just legible.

One here which escaped the A12 sign cull in Great Yarmouth when the road was renumbered to A47. I rather hope it remains undetected as it's a nice reminder of times before this silly renumbering took place

Certainly is still there - I went to the truckstop for a breakfast last week. Loads of signs around that junction are ancient, including this one!!

Another one on the same junction I noticed - mainly because I found it odd to get an RCS on a B road!
