Re: Manky Signs
This level crossing at Cuxton, Kent was just upgraded from traditional gates and Network Rail have stuck the very old axle weight limit sign on one of the new poles it looks like.
Re: Manky Signs
I missed the sign the first time watching, it doesn't help that the red is no longer red. Do you know wether that sign was there before hand? Either way it should of been replaced when works were carried out.Nathan_A_RF wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2019 23:00 This level crossing at Cuxton, Kent was just upgraded from traditional gates and Network Rail have stuck the very old axle weight limit sign on one of the new poles it looks like.
Also the keep clear markings on the ground are not used as prescribed. You either have a solid line above and below the text, not half a line below.

Noticed this relic https://www.google.com/maps/@53.3972271 ... 312!8i6656
It states Liverpool B5210. Now whilst technically possible to get to Liverpool this way it seems a little odd as immidiately left is the A574 not B5210 which actually joins up with a short section of the B5210 in central warrington. Which then leads to the A57 towards the M62. Despite the road number anomaly i doubt anybody would travel to Liverpool via the convoluted route. Perhaps this shows it's age.

This sign predates Midland Way as well as Birchwood Way being built by several decades and at the time this was the B5210, as the A574 started on the A57 behind the sign and went through Fearnhead on its way to Leigh. At the time it would have been easier to go along the B5210, then loop across Froghall Lane and avoid the town centre completely to get to Liverpool by rejoining the A57 at Sankey.
SABRE Maps has a few OS One Inch maps showing this - have a play with the Maps tab above (and expect to lose several hours doing so as it's very immersive seeing how much things have changed).

Re: Manky Signs
Maybe due to it being really faded, it makes people slow down so they can read the sign.

Noticed this one a couple of times. https://www.google.com/maps/@53.401948, ... 384!8i8192 Still in good condition but rather faded. Complete with frame. Did this originally have a light at the top?
Re: Manky Signs
It did indeed. This is a New Town bespoke design. Very few left now.

Re: Manky Signs
Thanks Bryn. Another one here https://www.google.com/maps/@53.4124255 ... 384!8i8192 but without frame. It does have two lamps but unsure if they still work.
Also this one is pretty old further up near to the Rocket interchange. Interesting it Refers to 'Docks Central'. The commercial port of Liverpool only operates in the northern docks these days with the central and southern docks mainly infilled or residential / shopping use (Albert dock etc) but were still used commercially into the 70's so i guess this sign is from around that time.

Original concrete posts and arms to hold uplights (long since gone) and the remnant of a light baffle. The sign isn't the original and is now in much worse condition than the photo indicates.
Patience is not a virtue - it's a concept invented by the dozy beggars who are unable to think quickly enough.

Re: Manky Signs
While it's fresh in my memory. I noticed this beauty along a private road near Lostock Gralam, Northwich. It's now obscured by a fence. And the railway has been tarmaced over so no crossing any more. For anybody who can't make it out. It says 'Caution Oblique Crossing Cyclists Dismount'

Re: Manky Signs
Spotted this pair of rather manky signs in Buxton yesterday - I can't work out what colour they were originally.
"What pair?" you say - you need to look closely for the second sign, it's almost faded into the background. Sorry this is the best view GSV could provide.

Also that ADS to the right belongs in the Botched thread - how is 'Town Centre' a primary route panel without a route number
