This isn't manky really but it's a good demonstration of prevailing wind direction.

Sign facing east remaining in good condition
Sign facing west starting to accumulate mank and writing starting to wear off

Also not particularly manky (surprisingly), but this old brackets galore example is due to head for the scrap heap soon.

Another that traffic light man may like. In a similar vein, not that manky considering but both obsolete.
The first one looks a bit hotch potch especially as the motorway patch is bigger than the green ones but i quite like it. The blue border simply has too much info on it! Especially Aintree Racecourse 1 1/4 then Aintree 1 1/4 !

The works to remove the carriageway from Mann Island have begun in ernest this last week, so I'm not sure how long its got left!

I notice in my earlier example, '(M6)' gets left out of the 'M'ways' group to serve Preston especially, yet on your Walton example, its now the '(M58)' instead, with the M6 making no appearance at all!

I also find the mention of 'Southport (A570)' very strange indeed. IME, it would ordinarily be signed as a route leading ultimately to the A565 from pretty much anywhere within the city boundary, especially being only a few miles (as the crow flies) from the A565 at this point.

This one has sadly been removed https://www.google.com/maps/@53.4710751 ... 384!8i8192 as the roundabout is being remodelled. The underpasses have all been filled in..

Whoa there. This junction on the A56 near Cheetham Hill is a bit of a time warp..
Also strange set up with the traffic light arrangement. Why no right turn?

The blue border in the last photo appears to be halfway between a thick and the later regular size. Judging by the amount of destinations with fractions I assume it's early Worboys and should be thick.
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?

Could well be judging by their condition.
Here are the others at the same junction. The last one appeared to be shiny / almost stainless steel looking which is unusual.
What's also unusual is that there was a brand new sign there at the junction for west bound traffic. And looking at GSV it was only installed in the last year but the others remain.. perhaps the ££ ran out.
From my experience of driving around Manchester over the years i note that much of the city is quite up to date with signage (in my eyes anyway) so these museum pieces came as quite a surprise..

Banning the right turn increases the signal capacity and means shorter stages can be run - giving the A56 more time.

Indeed, you can see in this GSV shot that the pedestrian crossing 'walks-with-traffic', so the banned turns protect that.

Spotted some more brackety goodness in South Liverpool... They mustn't be as unusual as I'd first thought! I also thought it was unusual to sign 'St Helens (A57)' rather than via the M62, but I presume these were installed pre-A570 Linkway being built from M62 J7.

I've seen a couple of those before but never captured them. I quite like this old style. I expect if they were to be knocked down by a RTC they wouldn't be replaced..

The blue patches had to have rounded corners before 1994 but green ones did not - it was because the green patches were thought up in 1964 when manufacturing techniques were still a bit more primitive. By 1975 things had changed, but as you can see hand cut patches applied to the sign sheet carried on.

Those signs all appear to be mid-1980s/early 1990s as they still have rivets visible which was deprecated as a design feature in the mid-90s.

Very manky 'visit our town' sign. Not like it's on an important busy road.

I'm fairly sure Rambo has posted this pair before, but I can't find the post. Anyway, I walked past them the other day and thought they were worthy of a(nother) snap!
