The A51 is the last road into Chester so it ignores the A556, it's right but a very old way of doing it. It does of course clearly pre-date the M56, which is the preferred route to Chester these days.

I imagine Rambo might have already mentioned this one, but I walked past it yesterday and thought it was worth a photo! This (and it's partner down the road) has survived some considerable road layout changes here over the years.

ah excellent. I haven't photographed them as it happens but have noticed it before along with the next blue bordered local one. I will have to take a wander next time i'm around there.traffic-light-man wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 11:53 I imagine Rambo might have already mentioned this one, but I walked past it yesterday and thought it was worth a photo! Re: Manky Signs
This being t'other one. I didn't have it down as particularly manky (except for the stickers), but its a nice city-centre blue border that's holding on.

Re: Manky Signs
This was the other sign exiting a (now closed) side road at Eastham, Wirral. I have driven along here and the said side road into a works has had a barrier over it since at least 2005.

Re: Manky Signs
"Survived" is doing some heavy lifting there, given much of the sign is missing!traffic-light-man wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 11:53 I imagine Rambo might have already mentioned this one, but I walked past it yesterday and thought it was worth a photo! These at A1(M) J58 at the entry to the southbound sliproad have seen some better days.

Re: Manky Signs
Can't remember if i've posted this before. This must be the mankiest one i've ever seen to date..
Re: Manky Signs
Then there is just over the road.. Not sure if i've ever come across another blue bordered route confirmation sign before?
Re: Manky Signs
I saw a sign today which is possibly the mankiest out there.
Anyone care to guess what the symbol is? It is a proper reflectorised highway sign and I managed to scrape a bit of the moss off it to see.

Re: Manky Signs
These are looking a bit past their best. In fact I believe they should have been removed years ago. They are "no waiting" roundels at the beginning of a restriction, and they were once commonplace, but not needed for a long time.

Chris - that link isn't working. It sticks on Malt House Lane and goes blank.

Darnit, the perils of trying to do a link to streetview from a mobile. I'll edit from my laptop tomorrow. Or if you want to try, it's at that point on the lane, looking towards the lakes.

Re: Manky Signs
I notice that driving along the A580 east Lancs road there are a couple of remaining blue bordered signs that have escaped upgrade at Astley. This being on the westbound carriageway.

I presume they are like this?Chris Bertram wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 21:27Darnit, the perils of trying to do a link to streetview from a mobile. I'll edit from my laptop tomorrow. Or if you want to try, it's at that point on the lane, looking towards the lakes.
