Re: Manky Signs
The Nantmor signs are good ones, Rambo. I posted them both a while back but just as SV links, it's much better to have an actual photo on the thread.
Did you get the two old-style 'road joins from side' and the 1:6 signs on the Llanfrothen - Rhyd road further along the A4085?

Re: Manky Signs
I didn't, sadly. I've just looked back and noted your posts on the same signs. The only thing is i didn't notice the other Nantmor PW sign at the junction with the A498? i think i saw it on flickr originally. But it could have gone or was hidden by vegetation.Kevin Roads wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 20:32 The Nantmor signs are good ones, Rambo. Re: Manky Signs
I'm fairly sure the other pw Nantmor sign (https://maps.app.goo.gl/TYASztyBYV3X9VR66) is no longer there as I've been along that road many times recently and haven't noticed it, although you may - hopefully - be correct and it's just covered with vegetation. I'll try and get out there this week and will let you know; I'll also try and get photos of the other signs mentioned.
The Dolgellau signs are classics, I've passed those myself quite a lot but, as I've started to try and take photos rather than a StreetView link, I haven't snapped them yet. There are a few old pieces around Dolgellau: in one of my first posts on here I linked a view of the old bollards on the islands at the opposite end of the town - I think the junction in your photo has an old internally-illuminated bollard or two.

Re: Manky Signs
Looking in the maps section, this junction appears to be new in the late 1970's / early 80's when the A494 was extended to meet the A487 on the old railway alignment. That would suggest those signs date back to then being the old faded shade of green / blue borderd non reflective type. It looks like the ones at the west end of the town have been replace though in the last few years according to GSV.Kevin Roads wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 20:52 I'm fairly sure the other pw Nantmor sign (https://maps.app.goo.gl/TYASztyBYV3X9VR66) is no longer there as I've been along that road many times recently and haven't noticed it, although you may - hopefully - be correct and it's just covered with vegetation. Also at the same junction https://www.google.com/maps/@52.7477462 ... 312!8i6656 although i didn't drive that way so only discovered it afterwards.

I noticed this one https://www.google.com/maps/@52.9243914 ... 312!8i6656 in Porthmadog recently which is more faded than this GSV image. Also a home made (Pre worboys lookalike) arrowKevin Roads wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 21:22 Faded parking sign spotted a few weeks' ago in Porthmadog:

Nice. I was there last month and noticed the old, faded 'Children Crossing ' sign which you posted the other day but, for some unknown reason, didn't take a pic.Rambo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 20:29I noticed this one https://www.google.com/maps/@52.9243914 ... 312!8i6656 in Porthmadog recently which is more faded than this GSV image. I may get out tomorrow, have one or two things of interest to aim for, so will hopefully add more to this thread then.

Just further along are these two very small dark-blue borders, they point along the two minor roads on the bend in the 'Trefriw' sign above.

Re: Manky Signs
This was unexpected: I'd parked to photograph something for the pre-Warboys thread but this was the first thing I saw
The lettering seems to have peeled as if reacting to something, although I can't imagine what as I'd have expected lettering to be made of something robust. Saying that, aren't signs usually printed (in some fashion) rather than having stick-on lettering?

Re: Manky Signs
This is the catch of the day.
I did a double-take as I've driven past this a few times and only noticed it properly today. I had to turn round, drive past it again to make sure, then found some (not very suitable) parking and then dodged the mad driving of completely-unaware tourists but the results were worth it, I think*
I looked at the back to see if there was any date but there was just the maker's name. I haven't Googled them but does anyone (Bryn?) know them? *Having written all this, I haven't checked if this sign has been posted before, apologies if everyone knows it.

Re: Manky Signs
Not sure who Pride Roadsigns are!
The lettering peel off is presumably old sign material - they were indeed once upon a time individual vinyl letters stuck onto the metal.

Re: Manky Signs
I'm always surprised to see that such signs like these (early side road warning sign) which must have been pre 1975 is in such good condition. Is it a case that things generally lasted longer back then or it has been looked after, perhaps regularly cleaned.Kevin Roads wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 20:25 This is the catch of the day.

Re: Manky Signs
Managed to get out again today and get a few more, some of which I've posted earlier as Streetview links but I think it's better to have an actual photo.
An internally-illuminated one-way traffic sign in Bangor; this was in one of my first posts here and its mate on the other side of the road

Re: Manky Signs
A couple of manky - one especially so - signs for Maentwrog. I've just noticed that the Harlech sign, although not catching my eye initially, is also looking a bit worn and has visible rivets so it must be fairly old.

Toilet sign in Maentwrog. Unusual to see 'Cyfleusterau' (Convenience) instead of 'Toiledau'.

Re: Manky Signs
The next few signs were also SV links on my early posts and I asked Rambo if he photographed these when he was in the area last week. He didn't manage to get them so I said I'd try to do it.
This first one was a surprise as I'd only seen it briefly as I drove past heading in the opposite direction. I'd seen its counterpart more clearly at the top of the hill so was taken aback when I saw this one at close-quarters: It's obviously a recently-made retroreflective plate but has had the old design printed. The sticker on the reverse seems fairly new:

Re: Manky Signs
I went to the top of the hill and this was more in line with my expectations:
Strangely (or maybe not, having seen on Sabre what sign designers and planners are like) there is a modern-style 17% sign a bit further down the hill from this. You might be able to see it in the background as it's mounted on the seemingly ubiquitous yellow backing board. There is no 17% sign for the uphill traffic, just the new-old 1:6 that I posted above.
