No, the original would have had rounder corners and a solid triangle arrowhead.

taking a quick look at GSV it has deteriorated pretty quickly since about 2009 so the condition probably makes it look older than it really is. There is another equally poor version on the southbound exit too.

From the highways agency that brought you
the M5
comes
the A3.
Not as bad, but still not great.

I'm not sure I've ever noticed this one before: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.80668 ... 384!8i8192

It's not only manky, but bad in general!

For some reason these brown tourist signs do not age very well at all.

I think there's a brown tourist sign on the M6 for Wigan Pier which is possibly worse than the examples posted - I'll try and find it!

Oh yes - here it is!

Australia has the same problem. Whatever material is being used tends to fade towards a very washed out green.

Yep i've tried to snap those from the passenger seat before and failed! There is one in each direction and must be 20 years? out of date.

You don't realise how bad this one is until it's dark and the Astley Hall (HTF that qualifies for motorway signs I do not know, it replaced Camelot) coverplate fires back Class 3 retroreflective material back at you compared to the old sign around it, which doesn't.

Has Camelot closed? I went there on a school trip in the 80s. I know its sister theme park, American Adventure, has now closed.

Shut many years ago, the rides were left abandoned for a while. There's a plan to turn it into a giant housing estate which is about as popular as you'd expect, given access to the M6 is their rationale and that exists solely by sneaking through an MSA car park...

Two more snapped recently. On the first one, the A580 seems to have been patched at some point, but I can't think what it would have said originally. I suppose it's possible that those two characters have just failed for some reason.

From the font, that's a PW sign.

It's an odd one thats for sure. I'll put a question mark over it as looking at this back view it looks more modern than PW https://www.google.com/maps/@53.2557645 ... 312!8i6656 although it could have been re hung at some point.

It's been refitted, the typeface is clearly pre-Worboys, and there are visible rivets around the front of the sign from an old mounting frame.
