Which, err, is the whole point of having a regional destination in the first place! To save having to list a whole load of other towns and ending up with a completely unreadable sign.

It does look strange though. Plenty of signs give "THE NORTH" then list places that are indeed in The North as in this random example.

I suspect that this is hidden when the hedge is in full growth; also, it's probably been battered by the hedge-trimmer:
