I'm surprised that has survived all the modernisation that's taken place around there. It must date back to the 1980s, I'm sure that I saw similar signs around the junction of New Bridge Street and Chapel Street.

Older than that - it looks very early Worboys, and the fact that Liverpool is signed along the A580 suggests it wouldn't have been put up after the M62 opening in 1974(?).

And another manky sign in the same car park. The lettering is pressed in to the metal plate which suggests it was made quite a while ago (Aberconwy Borough Council was disestablished in 1996 so it's from before then).

I've driven past this many times and have finally captured the mank and visible rivets:

This sign viewtopic.php?f=41&t=28661&p=1005528&hi ... d#p1005528 may soon be no more as the building to which it's affixed is being demolished.

The demolition man said that all the building is being knocked-down* but the sign will be removed and then reinstated. I asked if it would be the the same sign or a new version and he did say it will be the existing one. In case it is a new one, I took a pic for the SABRE records:

It's deteriorated a bit since danfw194 took his photo.

*The new building is going to be a Go Outdoors, just what's needed as there aren't enough outdoor shops in Betws.

Whilst I was parked in Betws, I spotted this cracker:

Faded almost completely to white with crazing on the face and a lichen-covered manky lamp.

Faded alnost completely to white with crazing on the face and a lichen-covered manky lamp.
I genuinely thought for a second this was a "national speed limit" sign. I expect it would be less likely to make that error in context.

Sadly, for us fans of manky old signs, these signs (both carriageways) have been replaced with the current version.

I saw the new ones a good few weeks' ago and wondered whether someone (Denbighshire Council? Not sure who is responsible for the A55 signs) had seen your post, Rambo, and it triggered the replacement. It seemed to be a coincidence that it happened so soon after appearing on here; I know that I'm probably reading too much into it.

Probably not a coincidence as i've had the same thing happen round here. This one https://www.google.com/maps/@53.4347708 ... 384!8i8192 has recently been replaced with a modern version. Seems strange becuase it was in good condition but it did feature on my FB page. Also two faded ones in Lymm were replaced very soon after. I think they featured on here rather than FB. I suppose it's a case of who could be watching ? Maybe not here on Sabre but i have a feeling councils won't like anybody pointing out old obsolete signs on social media as it will reflect badly on them..

Another from the Salford area captured last year. Salford seem to have done away with nearly all blue bordered signs. This one survives and is looking a little faded near the A580 /A6 junction at Irlams o' th' Height.

I walked across Warburton bridge today and captured this in the trees just on the south side of the ship canal. I'd seen it before but it is usually hidden in the bushes. It certainly looks old and perhaps an odd placement along what is effectively a private road although it appears to be the county boundary. There is a more recent 'Welcome to Trafford' further along the road after the toll booth.
edit - i have just found a better pic of it here https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3923178

I think this one can be counted as Manky. It looks like the letters have peeled off and been stuck back on in different places. It's also obvious that the logo has been changed with a sticker. Big blue border too

For the locationally curious this is in the Odeon car park by the pedestrian underpass. https://goo.gl/maps/gc7h3wRfM5gGQtVL8
There's a real New Town vibe here going on here with lots of steps leading down to some kind of historic monument to the founding of Telford. It was unreadable in the dark and Dune was starting soon :D

An elderly RCS (dark green) along the eastbound slip road at junction 36A, Broughton, A55. Luckily it wasn't too far up the slip road to walk up and capture.

Not quite manky, more droopy. Surely this is an easy fix?

That's a beauty that.

I noticed this earlier in the year but being on the slip road it was impossible to stop. So i made a point of going back when i was in the area. Unusual to me in that all of the other signs around the A55 are more up to date. I suppose it's in reasonable condition if it is indeed from the 1970's.

Not snapped much mankyness lately. This one was captured in Oct 2020. Cheetham Hill area of Manchester. 8 destinations is quite impressive!
