Re: Manky Signs
One that I've driven past many times but always in the opposite direction so it remained unnoticed until recently:

Re: Manky Signs
Faded and a bit beaten but also an unusual design, with the side-road line being thinner, shorter and placed further toward the top than normal. It all looked original, though.

Looks like this one has been botched!Kevin Roads wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 14:27 Faded and a bit beaten but also an unusual design, with the side-road line being thinner, shorter and placed further toward the top than normal. It all looked original, though.

I found more Wirral classics recently. This time in Heswall.

Re: Manky Signs
Saw this one the other day. Apart from being blue-bordered and in terrible condition, that's an "interesting" way of repairing it...
Re: Manky Signs
Presumably an "unofficial" repair, like this one which seems to use a Saltire-themed house number sticker!SteelCamel wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 12:34 Saw this one the other day. Apart from being blue-bordered and in terrible condition, that's an "interesting" way of repairing it...

Re: Manky Signs
Beware of ... a polar bear in a snow storm? Moss? Actually it was probably a humpback bridge.
Re: Manky Signs
When i was recently in Heswall there were lots of ancient one-way system signs such as the one below. Also an old style crossroads sign.

Re: Manky Signs
Presumably a NSL. Though if it is then I suspect it should have been removed as the 30 limit appears to have been extended round the next bend.

Re: Manky Signs
This must have a bit of age as it has visible rivets and the dark-blue border but it's obviously kept clean:

Re: Manky Signs
The best that I've seen for a while, completely unexpected. It's surprising how these old signs survive in a sea of current ones.
Obsolete, manky, on a stepped post that is itself at an angle (and has the wall built each side of it):

Re: Manky Signs
There's a beautiful irony to this! Especially as the 'new' layout appears to have been there in 2009, and probably a while earlier as the sign was fading even back then
Re: Manky Signs
Thats very good, as are the others in North Wales. I can imagine the huge expense put into signage in the 1970's and 80's replacing stuff from the cast iron era. And equally amazing how so many are still around today (blue bordered in particular)Kevin Roads wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 14:59 The best that I've seen for a while, completely unexpected. Re: Manky Signs
I saw these on the northbound A470 past Merthyr Tydfil yesterday. The NSL repeater is a bit manky, but the clearway repeaters are far worse.

Re: Manky Signs
Manky finger post along the A5104 near Llandegla.
The A5104 used to be a great bit of road. Now spoilt by 50 mph average speed cameras in several sections.
It was always the quicker route going from the north west to Mid Wales as opposed to using than the primary A494 cutting out Mold and Ruthin and it's several windy sections.
