Thanks, Rambo. I'm having a glut of posting after finally getting the StreetView links working.

There are loads of old signs - particularly blue-bordered of varying styles and vintages - around here in North Wales; all the ones I've posted are just what I've noted when driving around. I passed the Porth Penrhyn one just today.

I'll try and get some more up in the next few days - I'll pace myself.

That's quite common on council boundaries in England too.

The signs are frequently not at the actual border though.

The A55 has a surprising number of blue-bordered signs, both on the carriageway and at the end of sliproads and the like.

Noticed these specimens at Fiddlers Ferry marina on a recent walk. They look unusually placed but they actually face oncoming vehicles crossing a canal bridge behind me.

Nice catch, Rambo. The 'Car driving into water' sign is fairly uncommon, I think; that particular one is properly manky as well.

They do seem unsually placed; as you say, they are facing traffic driving across the canal bridge so one would hope that a driver would be aware of where the canal's edge was, having just crossed it. Maybe the council/canal authority covering themselves?

The east end of Newcastle in the Walker era, not one of the more salubrious parts of the city, has several blue bordered local signs with faded lettering and traffic lights where the shades have almost faded to white.

There is probably loads of obsolete stuff on these quiet country lanes. But are they still there? A lot of GSV images were recorded around 2009 but some of these places haven't had a visit since..

There are still quite a few axle weight limit signs on small bridges over the Bridgewater canal near me. What year did these become obsolete?

I hadn't realised such a thread existed! Not the worse example, but Google Street View does show how this sign on the A2018 approaching the Dartford Heath junction of the A2 has deteriorated badly over the last 10 years

Hi Rambo, yes, the quiet back roads are the best place for a chance of manky - and hopefully obsolete - sign-spotting. I chanced upon the axle weight sign that I posted whilst looking on StreetView for something else but I'll hopefully be down that way in a few weeks so will go and see if it's still standing; I'll post the result on here. All the other signs that I've posted are still there as I pass them fairly frequently.

I love the '6T' and 'No track laying vehicles ' combo, there can not be many of either of those individually standing, never mind together.

Bryn666: thanks for replying. Some of these signs must be well over 30 years old then, assuming they were put up sometime before 1994. Re blue-bordered signs: I'm sure I read that these became obsolete around the same time but some of them look relatively new. Do you know if some councils would have maybe inadvertently made new blue signs after the cut-off date?
