Toilets perhaps ?
Ticking of the box agreeing to the Ts & Cs was forced - done under duress - therefore I don't necessarily agree with them.

Many years ago carriageway painted SLOW, SLOW, and then an interval before the final SLOW, had someone interpose QUICK QUICK at the relevant place, seemingly done in white gloss paint. Right here on the A540 in the Wirral. http://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=53.352597, ... 26,,0,6.61

Being on DWLs, removal some weeks later was a nuisance for the road crew, of course.

Just along from there, an early Margaret Calvert 'old people crossing' pictogram was supplemented for years with an "Old Codgers" additional text, while Margaret's famous school pictogram, without text, was doubtless encouraged by the mumber of pre-Worboys signs with the "School" legend, conveniently at the bottom, which has "Ban" written just above.

Here's an good one that I've posted before.

----

Near where I live there's a bunch of streets called Well House Road, Well House Drive etc and on one sign WELL has been changed to WEEE.

It's a common phenomenon in Leeds to have a group of streets with identical names except that one of them is Street, one is Road, one is Avenue etc.

This stop sign currently has "hammer time" added underneath on a sticker.

Also seen "eating animals" somewhere else but can't remember where.

I remember a sign for Hyde Hospital had the letters H, O, A & L painted out.

In the same way someone blanked out the letters M, G & L from a sign for a Swimming Pool. It was somewhere in Norfolk, can't remember exactly where.

The signs in the middle of Gants Hill Roundabout once had the Gs painted or stickered out all the way round. I seem to remember it was Ants Hill for quite some time...

You can guess from the smudge what happened here...

Canal Street in Manchester often get's it's C painted out.

I've seen a few other street names that would be funny if someone defaced them in a certain way.

My favourite one in this regard was here, not far from my house, where (I assume) local opponents to genetic modification had their way for a while a few years ago, repeatedly covering over or painting out the first 'e' in the first word visible here... until eventually that whole part of the sign had to be patched over! In fact I think you can make out the patching on that Google Street View...

...and no, it *wasn't* me, by the way! But I had to admire the stoic determination of whoever it was to be terribly, terribly silly, over and over again... and I bet there were many stuffed shirts on said campus that were really quite annoyed at having their 'incredibly important' work repeatedly mocked in this way... :D

The old classic in central Manchester, Canal Street SNP, regularly changed to "anal treet"....yes the heart of the gay village.

There was a sharp bend sign on the road where I grew up, with the old dangerous bend subplate, that was regularly edited to dangerous bender.

Seems to be a theme here..............
