Blue primary route signs.
Is it me or are these signs in Snowdonia blue? There are some other ones in the junctions nearby too.
They are on this stretch of road:

Re: Blue primary route signs.
They're green, but the older/faded darker green.
Built for comfort, not speed.
Re: Blue primary route signs.
Yeah- older signs usually fade and look that sort of colour after many years.
They don't usually look quite so blue, but they definitely used to be green.

Yeah there are still darker green ones about but I didn't know they faded like that, thanks.

Re: Blue primary route signs.
The previous version of this one was dark green. Virtually just dark green as almost ALL the text had come off, it was THAT old. And well maintained. Obviously.

Still, nice to see the replacement sign is entirely correct, with no errors at all, not in the slightest...

Re: Blue primary route signs.
There were many badly faded signs on this stretch of A491 until last year. Most have been replaced now but for some reason this one still survives.
Re: Blue primary route signs.
I just noticed one on the Keynsham bypass yesterday near Hicks Gate. Must have passed it countless times but never noticed the unusual colour before. It looked bluer in the light at the time than Google shows it.
Another thing you can see is the new LED lighting that has been installed by Bath and North East Somerset, which I like. The lamp shape matches the original quite well and I much prefer them to the new-style stumpy or bracketless types. Naturally the replacement ends on the A4 just east of Hicks Gate and on the Avon Ring Road just north of Hicks Gate right at the border.

Fixed that for you.booshank wrote:I just noticed one on the Keynsham bypass yesterday near Horace Batchelor.

I hadn't actually heard of Horace Batchelor before, but living near Keynsham I'd never thought of the spelling.nowster wrote:Fixed that for you.booshank wrote:I just noticed one on the Keynsham bypass yesterday near Horace Batchelor.
I always thought Hicks Gate was amusing though as it makes me think of someone in a straw hat and white smock sucking a straw while leaning against his gate.
Re: Blue primary route signs.
This sign on Carryduff roundabout seems to have a newer sign to the left and an older, darker sign to the right.
Re: Blue primary route signs.
Step forward in GSV and you can see the original sign has been trashed by a collision. Interesting streetlight arrangements there too.

I was looking at that and was like A24 and A7 with the A24 pointing to Newcastle?! What on earth is going on? Zoom out the map, aah!

Hehe, it's even signposted from the M2 Foreshore! As a child, used to think it was a secret portal to NE England to Gan Doon da ToonMark Hewitt wrote:Trebeck wrote:This sign on Carryduff roundabout seems to have a newer sign to the left and an older, darker sign to the right.

Not that anyone here bothers with road numbers, it's the Carryduff to Saintfield Road vs the Carryduff to Ballynahinch Road.
One step forward on the roundabout probably explains why Saintfield direction has a new sign...

Re: Blue primary route signs.
Belgium uses a hybrid where signs in advance of motorways are green but the mainline signs are all blue. The Netherlands used to do this for about 38 seconds in the 1980s and then abandoned it.Vierwielen wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2013 16:31 The Italians aways use bluew for primary roads, and just toi cinfuse us Brits, they use greem for motorways (as do the Swiss). Re: Blue primary route signs.
Looks like it didn't survive much longer after the above was posted. GSV for Sep 2014 shows a new sign.nick_dunn wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2013 10:52 There were many badly faded signs on this stretch of A491 until last year. Most have been replaced now but for some reason this one still survives.

Re: Blue primary route signs.
Greece uses green motorway signs because blue was already taken for general non-motorway direction signs.
