Ardhasaig is a remote roadside filling station: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@57.92203 ... 56!6m1!1e1
And here's an old one in Hertfordshire that's no longer in use: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.87474 ... 56!6m1!1e1

Re: Isolated fuel pump
These Shell pumps in St Mawes, Cornwall are no longer in use. Looks like the two types of pumps come from different era's. Note also the rather nice old AA sign on the wall of what I presume was an old garage. I've got some decent photo's of all these somewhere but can't just drop on them now.
Re: Isolated fuel pump
I've added a few more small petrol stations from geograph to: Gallery:Petrol station
Interestingly, there appear to be quite a few pumps outside local shops and on the roadside in Irish villages, particularly in the west. Looking at geograph, there are lots of falling-to-pieces isolated pumps on farms and things around Eastern England. I've started a wiki page on: Petrol station and plan to put a section on isolated pumps, as well as looking into decommissioning and change of use in greater detail (although if anyone else has more knowledge on this subject than me, please feel free to add it). The linked wiki page on Motorway Service Area definitely needs work as well.

This tiny petrol station is still in business in Garvagh in Northern Ireland. Saw a man getting diesel this morning. Attended service as well.
Re: Isolated fuel pump
There's one here in Presteigne which was once a motor mechanic shop

Re: Isolated fuel pump
There's one in Parkend and one in Bream but I'm not sure if they still work now.
Same with this one in Bishopswood, it seems like it's just a cafe these days.

Re: Isolated fuel pump
This is about 2 miles from where I used to live in West Sussex, and looked like this for pretty much all the time I lived down there (1991-2007)
Recently its been developed with the frontage retained and new buildings attached to it, converting into a residential block of flats. I think they've done really well!

Wow - fantastic job! I love that architectural style. Just like the Midland Hotel in Morecambe (although a tad less grand).RichardA626 wrote:That's very Art Deco styled.
It's also like any number of buildings from Fascist Italy and its empire, like this service station built in Eritrea.
Re: Isolated fuel pump
Bit less stylish, but as far as I know these pumps are still in use. Burmah Oil became defunct in 2000

Don't think it works anymore but in urban Reading - https://goo.gl/maps/K6ggCgGA9w82 and while we are at it - this was apparently the site of Reading's first petrol station https://goo.gl/maps/VKGUZvMQZPH2

Re: Isolated fuel pump
I stopped at this little filling station the other day.
I didn't buy any fuel; my girlfriend wanted some chocolate. The people (shopkeeper, and someone who appeared to be his next-door neighbour) were unbelievably friendly.

The bar next door looks rather good. It'll be the anniversary of the actual ship sinking in a few weeks.Owain wrote:I stopped at this little filling station the other day.

I was in Wainfleet earlier, so I thought I'd see if Storrs still sell petrol at the kerbside. Turns out that they do.
The filling station in Spilsby looked to still be doing attended service as well.

Been everywhere... can't remember any of it
Was fun though

I remember this one in Saffron Walden with its swing arm to cross the pavement (1987 picture at foot of page) and more vaguely remember the BP Moores Garage on Bridge Street (also Saffron Walden) shown. I'm guessing that one closed first.
