It's tucked away a bit and you need to know where to look :-)

Up until recently, there was also a sign showing the A2 as a primary route on Strood High Street but it was removed by Medway Council during improvement works.

It is still shown on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/qToFngX8ee4XYhhJ7

Oddly, it was a white sign with the green box with ‘A2’ written in it and nothing else.

this is quite strange as the A2 through Medway has not been a primary route since the M2 was opened in 1963 and this sign is clearly too new to be installed then.

I’m not sure whether it qualifies for this forum as it may have been put in for another purpose?

EDIT: Previous road improvements in the area in the 1980s may have seen this sign installed to replace a previous sign there with the green signs being introduced in the 1960s.

This road heading west out of Market harborough was downgraded from the A 427 to the A4304 when the A14 opened in the mid 1990s.

It's the same on the road heading east out of the town.

There are still some A460 signs knocking about in Cannock even though the bypass opened 30 years ago.

How would you like your grade separations, Sir?
Big and complex.

That's clearly an old sign replaced like for like.

No quality control yet again. It's beyond embarrassing.

I wonder if Cornwall CC daren't touch this one because it's attached to someone's wall.

It looks like it is on posts judging by the two empty ones next to it.

More likely a decision was taken that the information was relevant even though the sign is technically wrong. This happens a lot - there are still signs pointing to the A50 on bypassed sections near Uttoxeter for example.

The M41 existed until October 2015 according to this sign, after which it was crudely patched to A40 without brackets

This A50 crossed through sign still stands on the A511 southbound as you come away from A42 J13. I am guessing this is a legacy of when the A50 used to come down to this junction from Burton, whilst the Derby Southern Bypass was still under construction?.... Either way, the sign shouldn't be there now.

That was the route of the A50 long before the new Southern Bypass - Uttoxeter-Hatton-Tutbury-Burton-Woodville-Ashby-Coalville-Leicester

Is that kind of crossed through sign still allowed?

Yes. But they shouldn't be left in situ for as long as that one has.
