Temporary Sign placement

Post by cb a1 »

Grateful if one of our many highway experts could give me their opinion on the placement of this temporary sign.
Personally, I think that forcing pedestrians into the road is a bad thing and the sign should be in the road (it's a pretty wide urban road).

Appalling. It should be in the carriageway protected by cones/light at the leg closest to moving traffic.

But it's only pedestrians being inconvenienced instead of cars so no one will care...

I care! The head of roads will be getting an email, as will my Councillors and I might just use my work email to contact the head of the TM company...
I also moved it onto the road after taking the photo.

I've moved TM signs before when they've been blocking footways too.

Maybe I am just cynical having worked for fairly rubbish people in the past

Haha, actually my current job is with an environmental consultant so I've done more on highway and domestic drainage than traffic recently.

Needs must when you must pursue the golden pound sign...

Quite possibly boilerplate, but this is the reply I received from the MD within two hours of sending a complaint in this morning.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. This falls way below the standard that we expect of our traffic management operatives.

Please be assured that the decision of the crew to place the sign here will be fully investigated, leading to disciplinary actions should this be deemed appropriate.

I will use your photographs to be incorporated in to a toolbox talk for all of our operatives, supervisors, planners and contracts staff.

The temporary sign was only placed on the footway because there was no cycle path to put it in.
