What’s this white box ?

Post by GrahameCase »

An interesting item has caught my eye lately on the A899 in West Lothian - it’s attached to a lamppost prior to a junction and powered by a 16 amp socket - is it some kind of presence sensor for the junction?

Looks like it’s been in situ a while

Could be a small air quality monitoring station.

It is indeed an air quality monitor.

Haha, that was my first thought too :)
lose: (v): to suffer the deprivation of - to lose one's job; to lose one's life.

loose: (a): free or released from fastening or attachment - a loose end.

Thanks for the answers,

It must be there to monitor the pollution as a result of the large quantity of HGVs moving in and out of the industrial estate there.

Broxburn is an Air Quality Management Area due to high levels of pollution.

There's a much larger monitoring station in the town centre

This one has been a permanent installation for about fifteen years in Horsham, Sussex:

All councils have at least one - often more.

I nearly crashed my bike by that one - a very cold set of fingers slipped off as i let out clutch under RSA and I managed to simultaneously wheely and spin the back tyre. Really badly wrenched my shoulder on return to earth. Luckily I was only 2 miles form destination. I would have thought somewhere near the Library/Old Tandbridge site would have been a better place for one in Horsham though especially as more buses around that area
