There are similar signs on the A3 at Liss due to the needlessly weird shape of the roundabout.

What happened to the GSJ plans at Liss?

A similarly vanished marking, referenced in another recent thread, is the dashed-yellow parking kerb markings, for "less than the working day". When first introduced "binary parking", where alternate sides of a road were allowed/prohibited on alternate days, generally to appease shopkeepers, was still commonplace, often with a 30-minute limit, and marked as such, but that seems to have gone as well.

Usually, examples like this would either be cut out or be on a grey background.

That definitely belongs in the 'botched signs' thread.

It absolutely does. The backing board is atrocious, but the alignment of the text is all wrong too - it should all be left-aligned, except for single items that spill onto two lines, which should be centred within their own width. That sign has just centred everything.

But then we know there's a dreadful skills shortage in highway engineering, it's just yet another confirmation :(

No vehicles isn't rare. No vehicles during daytime isn't rare. But what about no vehicles at night?
I encountered one in Scunthorpe on Saturday. Then an hour later I spotted another one in Doncaster (not on GSV yet but see announcement from Doncaster Council here).

Are there particular events happening on the street on those dates?

As it's every weekend and bank holiday I doubt it's for specific events. I assume this is the happening heart of Scunthorpe's drinking scene, although that doesn't appear to be the case, and neither does the restricted section include The Baths Hall, a swimming pool converted into a concert hall (and currently a vaccination centre). So it's more likely to be an indirect issue with taxis or cruising perhaps. Hopefully someone with local knowledge can confirm.

How about a T shaped sign, with shorter bottom row than top row, rather than a boring rectangle? A cunning plan to avoid leaving tempting space for a letter to be added to the bottom row.

Streatham went with a similar but different approach, utilising the No Motor Vehicles "except for access" exemption to try to achieve the same. As here.

The perceived problem for locals here is "ladies of the night". This is just around the corner from the former residence of Cynthia Payne. 8pm seems a little early though. It's still light at that time for quite a few months of the year. Anyone fancy a tandem ride.

I can give you "No vehicles 9pm-5am", plus gates to ensure nobody even tries (here).

It looks like this sign won't be around for much longer, as a new bus stop layby has just been constructed at the location.

Although, that blue sign has only been in place since 2018, when it replaced this:

I recently travelled the A5 Staffs/Shropshire border for the first time in many years and was delighted to find that the "No overtaking" signs going past Weston Park are still there. They've been renewed, and the former exact distances I recall from back in the day have now been rounded off (though I think they should say "For 1050 yds" and not just "1050 yds" which implies a hazard ahead).

GSV has blurred the one on the left but not the one on the right!
