Re: Rare Roadsigns
Apart from featuring on the end of roadworks sign, this 'fast as you like' sign on an orange background must be rare.

Re: Rare Roadsigns
Go as fast as you like would be very rare indeed (except on some German autobahns of course).
To distinguish them from boring old-fashioned flat zebras how about calling them camel crossings?DavidB wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 20:46 Here's another (similar) one:

Re: Rare Roadsigns
That seems especially pointless, as unless you're turning left you immediately encounter another speed limit. So you can go round the roundabout at 60, but have to stay at 40 (or 30) each side of it. And who's going to set up a speed camera on a roundabout anyway?
If you do turn left, you immediately encounter two more NSL signs (repeaters? They look a bit big for that). So for some reason they're really keen that you know the A64 is NSL - at least it is for half a mile, until you reach the next roundabout, and it drops to 40 again (this time including the roundabout).
Re: Rare Roadsigns
Chopsticks without a road number.
Of course, this road was only accessible to authorised vehicles... and pedestrians, due to a previous no vehicles sign.Re: Rare Roadsigns
I remember somewhere with a sign like https://www.flickr.com/photos/andyshort/8020744969/but I can't find the location on google maps.
Re: Rare Roadsigns
There is a similar sign here for Lympstone Commando https://www.google.com/maps/place/Marin ... e?hl=en-gbOliverH wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 20:51 I remember somewhere with a sign like https://www.flickr.com/photos/andyshort/8020744969/but I can't find the location on google maps.

Re: Rare Roadsigns
None of these signs are rare individually but collectively they create a rare road that is two-way for motor vehicles and bikes but almost one-way for pedestrians. (Not quite : there's nothing to say a pedestrian couldn't set off up the road then turn round.)
At the top it's clearly no pedestrians on either carriageway
At the bottom there's only a pedestrian prohibition on the downhill carriageway.
There isn't a missing sign on the uphill carriageway because not only is there no prohibition there are regular signs warning pedestrians of a "danger trench".

Re: Rare Roadsigns
Because Selby by-pass uses a swing bridge, there is a very real possibility of it being closed for more than just the occasional accident or incident. But there is no suitable alternative route for HGVs in volume – there is one narrow road that is a struggle even for the odd lorry that uses it to access local industrial sites, let alone if all of the lorries that usually use the by-pass were sent down there – and the next points across the river are at A64 and M62 meaning a very long diversion. So there needs to be the option for the restriction along New Street to be lifted in the event of the by-pass being closed.

Re: Rare Roadsigns
I was going to mention Cawood bridge, but I see that that is (unsurprisingly) weight-restricted as well. And has a 15mph limit over it. But I don't see a restriction over Boothferry bridge, albeit that's nearly as far as M62.Stevie D wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 14:59Because Selby by-pass uses a swing bridge, there is a very real possibility of it being closed for more than just the occasional accident or incident. Re: Rare Roadsigns
Cawood Bridge has a 10t mgw limit over it (although the 15mph limit is no longer in place) so is no use for an HGV diversion.Chris Bertram wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 16:19I was going to mention Cawood bridge, but I see that that is (unsurprisingly) weight-restricted as well. Boothferry Bridge isn't restricted, but by the time you've driven through the outskirts of Goole it would have been quicker to use the M62, which is why I didn't mention it!

A no right turn bollard: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.96639 ... authuser=0
Also, there is a slightly more common no entry bollard.
and here is a speed hump bollard (this one dose not light up but instead is reflective): https://www.google.com/maps/@53.8340504 ... 384!8i8192 . Also, I'm sure I have seen a traffic bollard with a give way sign on it.

this sign are more common in Scotland: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.35506 ... 312!8i6656
Edit: this old sign has now gone since the A14 works.

Re: Rare Roadsigns
Other rare ones that I have seen are one with a bike sign and one with a left-right arrow sign.OliverH wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 23:54 A no right turn bollard: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.96639 ... authuser=0

Re: Rare Roadsigns
So every cyclist that makes that right turn is disobeying two traffic signs. Nice.OliverH wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 23:54 A no right turn bollard: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.96639 ... authuser=0

This one is pretty rare, upon first sight I thought it wasn't prescribed until I checked.
