And right in the middle of York. TBH, I don't consider this a rare sign as I've seen that there so often.lefthandedspanner wrote: ↑Wed May 16, 2018 11:09 Also on both piers of the Corran-Ardgour ferry in the Highlands.

Another, slightly different, Tank Training Area sign near the training ground and museum at Bovington Camp - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.71948 ... 6656?hl=en
There's also Tanks Turning https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.71863 ... 6656?hl=en
And Tank Crossing (the opposite direction from Reading's previous A360 example) https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.71871 ... 6656?hl=en
I wonder what the drop down part says?
The other direction of the Tank Crossing sign https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.71712 ... 6656?hl=en
Just to keep you on your toes, Gliders ! https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.71618 ... 6656?hl=en
I'd be really worried if it were Gliding Tanks....

Re: Rare Roadsigns
A1101 Welney washes has some interesting ones, a TEST BRAKES one and a water depth gauge on the road itself being 2 that spring to mind.

Re: Rare Roadsigns
Surely those are common at any ford on a main road? Have a look on Wetroads. And yes, Welney is mentioned - see under "Norfolk".

Re: Rare Roadsigns
"Try your brakes" as opposed to just the usual "low gear now" signs on a hill isn't as common as the Ford equivalent. The only three I can think of are the A465 hills around Merthyr Tydfil, the A2 at Dover, and on the A649 at Bailiff Bridge (which I put in).
A465: https://goo.gl/maps/g9yminvGSwN2 - now on temporary A-frames for some reason (https://goo.gl/maps/MMX5ZpsME4E2)
A2: https://goo.gl/maps/wMFa3FZnUqD2 - (bonus tri-lingual escape lane sign!)
A470: https://goo.gl/maps/94DMNhf9sNq - my work...

Re: Rare Roadsigns
I've covered this in another thread, but how about signs that used to require a qualifying plate to figure 562, but now have prescribed signs in their own right? I'm thinking of the Farm Traffic plate on Fairchildes Road, in a small hamlet south of Croydon that I think the forum rules are preventing me from naming because of a perceived rude word

Re: Rare Roadsigns
I presume that's on the Falklands - I've seen similar pictures from a relative in the RAF. But you don't have to go that far from the UK to get Danger - Mines signs; I saw some in Guernsey in 2001, albeit rather old and tattered and quite possibly accidentally left over rather than still fulfilling their original purpose. On Dartmoor there are plenty of signs telling you not to touch unknown metal objects, with the very in-your-face addition "because they may explode and kill you".

Note the 562 is a cannibalised temporary A-frame sign.multiraider2 wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 14:34 I've covered this in another thread, but how about signs that used to require a qualifying plate to figure 562, but now have prescribed signs in their own right? Re: Rare Roadsigns
The same signs can also be found in parts of Sherwood Forest - along the bridleways south of Budby IIRC.
Let it snow.
Re: Rare Roadsigns
I dont think of those as rare as there were loads across sussex as i grew up - basically wherever farmyards opened directly onto a road. Like there use dot be loads of "Heavy Plant Crossing" signs around Bracknell which we used to joke referred to Triffids (which dates when we were talking)multiraider2 wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 14:34 I've covered this in another thread, but how about signs that used to require a qualifying plate to figure 562, but now have prescribed signs in their own right? Re: Rare Roadsigns
Yes, relatively common in rural areas. The question I had were how many were done under the newer Diagram 553.1 or converted from the old other hazard version? Of course "Farm Traffic" is still a permitted plate under 553.1. So it was really a question to the forum rather than a statement of fact.Reading wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 16:56I dont think of those as rare as there were loads across sussex as i grew up - basically wherever farmyards opened directly onto a road. If you're after unusual signs to do with hills the A39 will never disappoint.

It is, it's the Mount Pleasant to Port Stanley road. I served there with the Royal Military Police in 1991.FosseWay wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 14:37I presume that's on the Falklands - I've seen similar pictures from a relative in the RAF.
