Here is a rare genuine use of the Pass Either Side sign, on a bollard in central Swansea.

I have seen a few of these signs (usually on bollards, naturally), but I think this is the only one I've ever seen which actually conveys the intended meaning!

What would be on a lorry that is so heavy and needing at least 10 axles? Wind turbines and blades?
And how the heck would it get down the roads to and from Armadale?!

Not a particularly special sign, no?

Well, it's on a C road...

Between Sutton Scotney and Michaeldever, so it used to be the A30.

A relic of a bygone age.

Goodness, Blandford signposted at 48 miles! Who'd have thought?!

In fact, thinking about it, I don't know that I've ever seen a confirmatory distance sign without a route number!

Drive past this at least once a year usually and as well as Salisbury, I do actually go past Blandford and Dorchester, which of course would have been on different routes when this was the A30. So it is still reaching at least some of its target audience. I never saw the original sign here, but at a guess when this stopped being the A30 they just replaced like for like in a different colour and without the A30 moniker. But then there would or should have been some sort of bracketing for the locations off-route.

Off A19 at Knayton, just north of Thirsk:

Those have been there for many years.

The sign was mentioned on SABRE as long ago as 2007 :D :

It's unfortunate that the image of the sign from that post no longer appears to exist. I've developed quite a lot of 'fondness' for that sign as it reminds me of family holidays to Weymouth in the late 1960s when this stretch of the A30 was on our route to Dorset.

No, I think they're bespoke for that location. They fall into the category of "sign make it better", where wordy signs are put up in the hope of improving a poor record of collisions/injuries/deaths at a specific location. They may as well read "TRY NOT TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT" and are about as effective.

One here on the Cov ring road although I suspect the intention was for it to be a direction sign, however someone forgot the arrow!

This must be a rare combination. A speed limit on a road you aren't allowed to use.

This is similar. You can at least claim you're gaining access, but at 60mph?

But surely it's not "at 60mph"? The sign indicated the end of limit, obtained by order, (40 or whatever it is) on the roundabout and associated roads.

My understanding is that the numerical limit has to be signed at each entrance to, and cancelled at each exit from, the road(s) to which the order applies.

That surely makes this sign not a botch* but a requirement?

* Edit: Oops, sorry, thought this was the Botched Roadsigns thread!

I don't think I've ever seen a sign directing cyclists onto a road like the A303 before.

Not that there were a lot of choices if you wanted a direct route, which is why I was going that way.

This is very confusing. There's no prohibition going the other direction so is this just effectively a way of prohibiting two-way motor vehicle traffic but retaining two-way access for non-motorised traffic?

As there's several "ahead only" markings, I think it's more about prohibiting right turns across the main road. And the left turn is impractical without going onto the wrong side of the road. So turning into the road from either direction isn't allowed, because of the disruption to traffic on the main road. But cycles are allowed, as they can presumably turn without blocking the road. And horse-drawn carriages, but probably no-one thought of that...
It's not one-way, as there are quite a few houses on the road, and the residents could turn either way out of their houses. The road has passing places, too.

If you weren't transporting any poultry, then nothing, since it isn't relevant to you.
