Some pics here of the "new" Dublin street lighting scheme in 1938.
The pic below shows the concrete posts used with two lanterns, some of these posts remained until just a couple of years ago (see streetmap in 2014) . On the right of this picture, you can see characteristic 1903 style Dublin street light. The concrete is now gone, these streets have now been equipped with a taller replica of this 1903 design, plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

this is also a "Cross Here" sign in the picture and of course the Irish gauge tram tracks.

Ah those very hefty concrete lamp standards were so very much part of the city's streetscape, certainly when I was at TCD in the early 1980s. They were French in origin, made by Sofrapel of Paris, but I'm not sure if they were a special design for Dublin. The lanterns were possibly Holophane? Later concrete standards that were very common in Dublin were mostly by Stanton.
