Just a fine image of a junction in Wolverhampton in the early 1930s and showing the location of the 'first' automatic traffic signals outside of London that went up in 1928.

They're not the absolute originals - those were a 4-way signal hung from span-wire. See the Princes Square wiki article for a photo. But there was a post-mounted 4-way like this there for many years - I remember it being there in the early-to-mid sixties, at which point it was replace by a conventional installation with signals at the stop lines.

Formerly the location of the junction between A460, A454, A4124 and B4158, Princes Square (often mis-spelt as Princess Square) in Wolverhampton is today an unremarkable junction in the city centre.
In historic terms, it is extremely important as on 5
