I love how TSM specifically mentions NOT using chequerboards... and here we are.Conekicker wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 11:02Gotta love how they've put it on a yellow backing board to make it stand out more. Similar scenarion though, long straight unlit road, and a hedge waiting for someone to drive into it opposite the end.
And does this sign hold the record for the number of posts?

And if there's any further proof needed that the designer hasn't got a Scooby, the junction is preceded by this:

Well that's the flatlands for ya. The thankfully few years I was doing stuff down there showed me they had some very strange ideas about how to carry on.Bryn666 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 11:27I love how TSM specifically mentions NOT using chequerboards... and here we are.Conekicker wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 11:02Gotta love how they've put it on a yellow backing board to make it stand out more. Patience is not a virtue - it's a concept invented by the dozy beggars who are unable to think quickly enough.
Re: Weird sign?
Well years ago (70s?) before the Bawdeswell bypass was built the B1145 used to continue straight on from here. Maybe there's some good ol' Norfolk drivers who still think it does!

Re: Weird sign?
What's with the 142 yards? I've seen it in other places around Norfolk. Works out at 130m, so there's not even a sensible Metric explanation.Conekicker wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 11:02

Meanwhile, also in Norfolk,

Re: Weird sign?
I found a chequerboard here and thought it was unusual. So we've gathered they shouldn't actually exist then?
I'm nobody special, just somebody who enjoys looking at and talking about infrastructure. Eager to learn as much as I can about the roads of the UK - please help me with this.
Re: Weird sign?
Chequerboards should be used for playing chequers, not for road signs.
As a standalone sign, it is meaningless. As a backing board, it is distracting.
Re: Weird sign?
So hitting that tree at speed would be a disaster, but surely having a sign that shouldn't be there along that length would make an accident worse?
