I noticed at the weekend that the sign has gone. Any ideas where? Has it been saved?

There was talk of an imminent rescue in the comments on Chris' blog, last post 20th march.

It has! Highways England cottoned on to its significance (with thanks in no small part to some members of SABRE - not sure whether they wish to be named) and had it carefully removed. It’s been donated to the South Yorkshire Transport Museum who are planning to put it on display.

I’m hoping to make a visit in the next month or so to take some pictures and do a follow-up blog post.

The museum apparently only opens for visits on the second Sunday of every month at present - it’s a small outfit run by volunteers - but it might make a good basis for a future awayday.
