Out of date road signs
Moderator: Site Management Team
The M1 sign at M621 j3 is pretty out of date now!
How about signs in Birmingham pointing to "Inner Ring Road East"? That's also pretty out of date!

How about the sign in Burchetts Green HERE.
The road was declassifed from the A404 in 1989, when the the new Maidenhead Thickett bypass was open and took the number although the sign in the centre of the village remained as the original A404 sign. The sign also refered to the A4 as a primary road which it has not been since the early 90's
Last year the sign was replaced by a new sign in the village, which is exactly the same as the orginal complete with old numbers on it. Now that is silly

Most out of date road numbers on signage
Just noticed this one about a mile from where I live*:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.97746 ... 312!8i6656
This has been the B656 since the Baldock bypass opened in 2006.
* I don't often make the right turn that gives you a clear view of this sign so hadn't noticed it before.
Any other good examples?

Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
Merthyr Tudful is full of signs showing the A470's old route through the town long after the D2 bypass opened in the 80s.
There's this one in Cefn Coed y Cymer
This one in Pentrebach
And my personal favourite, this RCS on the A4060 so that anyone who takes the wrong roundabout exit still thinks they're on the A470!

You do have some lovely roads in Wales.rhyds wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 22:30 Merthyr Tudful is full of signs showing the A470's old route through the town long after the D2 bypass opened in the 80s.

Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
This road number is clearly out of date, but I suspect the sign itself is now "retired":

Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
The A74 is alive and well, all over the place.
However, this sign, in Coatbridge, is very out of date. According to our own Wiki, the B757 was de-classified, in Coatbridge, in the 1960s.
The 7-Zone Challenge
A roads: 71/71
B roads: 181/181
Total: 252/252

Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
I did wonder if it had been before and I had a quick check but didn't go back that far. My example wouldn't have been eligible back then being just 1 year out of date.Mattemotorway wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 23:03 I made a thread on the same subject way back in 2007- viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16874

Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
The real crimes are when brand new signs go up wrong like those in Rochdale that still refer to the A677 despite it becoming B6236 in 1997...

Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
This sign for the M41 lasted until at least October 2015 until it was finally patched.

It's good to see the M85 is still signposted in Perth. https://goo.gl/maps/4qbTFXmVDFQ2
Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
While I understand design/research time is expensive, there should be some kind of regulation against simply replacing like-for-like without a cursory check to see if the sign
1: Up to modern signage conventions
and
2: Still accurate

Wow ... that's quite a find!Euan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 23:17 This road number is clearly out of date, but I suspect the sign itself is now "retired":

The main street through Lydney is still green-signed as A48, a quarter-century after the bypass opened and took that number. Some of those green signs have even been put there later, and are clearly wrong.
A short distance away, this road ceased to be B4227 in the mid-1990s. The sign on the left has been patched to cover the number, but it doesn't look like the one on the right was ever patched (I've stood right in front of it, and there is no sign of any attempt to patch!).

Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
In that other thread I mentioned the A102(M) sign before the Darenth Interchange "unless the current works take it". Well, they didn't.
Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
Signs referring to the M10 still exist near Welwyn Garden City.
Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
This sign is out of date since the A92 hasn't run down Holburn Street since the early 1990s (and you don't need the A94 to get to Dundee any more). It's now marginally less out of date following the opening of the AWPR since you do now need to drive along the A92, but it should really be "(A92)", or "(A92) (A90)" if that's permissible.

Re: Most out of date road numbers on signage
A few signs remain in Tyne & Wear which refer to the A roads from before the renumbering that occurred when the A1 was routed via the Western Bypass, away from what's now the A194(M)/A19 via the Tyne Tunnel:
This on the A182 signs Newcastle via the A69 and the Tyne Tunnel via the A1(M)
This on A184/A189 junction signs the Redheugh Bridge as the A6082
I think the renumbering was done in the early 1990s so not as old as some but increasingly outdated!
