Sorry Oliver, I didn't know which section you meant when referring to Rakes Wood either. I did know J46 to Walshford was done later then the 1995 section which superseded the bit where this sign was and Chris confirmed April 2005 so I was in the right ballpark saying mid 00s. South of J46 was D3 by then but still A road as you say.

I had to look it up - there's some woodland by the name of Rakes Wood just northwest of Bramham Crossroads, so this is a reference to the Bramham-Wetherby scheme that opened in 2009.

It's worth saying that the B-W project was minimal, and involved closing a lay-by, closing the sliproads at Bramham, building a short length of LAR and putting up blue signs. The road was already D3M in cross-section thanks to the earlier 1990s upgrade that was done in anticipation of the M1 extension to Hook Moor.

This sign is in the little woodland bit on the left-hand side of the Rownhams eastbound services building.

You can just see the one on the other side of the same post, between the equally redundant pair of no-entry signs here:

Google Street View has footage from here at 2012 and at 2016, and the disappearance of the access road (presumably to off-motorway roads?) is between those two dates.

In 2021 this sign is still going strong. Also points to the A85 to Dundee, long the A90. Fourteen years after it was noted as being out of date here. Just marvellous.
The A85 part is correct - the road from there for another mile or so to the A90/M90 at Friarton Bridge IS the A85, but if the sign was installed today it would probably read "A85 (A90)". I wonder how long the M85 reference will remain!

This route confirmation sign in Rugeley has never been replaced since the A51 was diverted to the North of the town. It is now part of the A460 I think:

Also a contender for Manky Signs and the SOX streetlights topics!

This one has now been removed. For years this sign in Chelmsford was left in place, long after the A122 ceased to exist

There's still a very battered sign in Egremont near the castle that reads A595 Barrow. The sign would be in Manky Signs if I could get a photo of it, as the green background and yellow letters are completely faded. This should have been removed in 1993, but seems to linger on.

One for the London Arena near Canary Wharf (closed 2006):

And there are several for Ladywell Leisure Centre around Lewisham (closed around 2014?)

Quite a lot of RCBs get removed for one reason or another and rarely seem to be replaced, as I presume is the case here.

In Cromford there is this helpful sign warning you about a low eighteenth century aqueduct ... which was demolished by a lorry in 2002.

The A74 is still signposted from Longtown on the A6071, even though the A74 was replaced 14 years ago.

This part of the A199 hasn't been the A1 since the mid 00s!!! (I was up this way last week and it's still there! That was also the reason for asking about where the temporary terminus near Haddington was too)!

Hasn't been called Freeport since 2006. All the others were changed to "Outlet Village" when it was renamed Junction 32 Outlet likely so they didn't have to change them all again incase it got renamed again. They must of forgotten about that one.

Construction traffic this way - the construction ended in about 2012.

The signs are still there in 2022.

Most services signs on the M1 have been updated for Skelton Lake. This one hasn't. (5 miles to Woolley Edge, 35 miles to Wetherby, nothing between)

Near Vauxhalls at Ellesmere Port. The railway crossing further up hasn't been used since the 1980's and used to serve Eastham oil refinery. The tracks have mosty been ripped up in the last few years.
