Re: Preservation of cast iron lamp standards
Unfortunately (and fortunately) street lights in my hometown were all replaced about 5 or 6 years ago, weirdly not to LED lights though. The street lights definitely give an area character and you could usually be able to tell how old a street was by their style. There was one street near me, where in a 300 metre section there are about 12 lighting columns, of which only two were identical, some had old cast iron columns, with their original light housing, some with newer ones. Some newer columns but with older style lamps (and swan necks), and a few new new ones of various designs.
But by far my favorite columns are the ones along Brighton seafront, which could probably withstand a truck cause they are thiccc af.
