What are these?
These?
Quite possibly.

What are these?
Look very 1980s, they are common in Glasgow.

I don't think Stockport has any Alpha 1s left, the council has replaced a lot of older lighting in recent years.

Oddly they replaced the fittings but reused the posts, even when they look quite old.

They still had loads even up to last summer, they must have gone all out to kill them off if so. Longford Road West was full of Alpha 1s, to name just one.

A few remaining on the old Pilkingtons site near St. Asaph. They were still hanging on when I drove past there last year. I'd love to get my hands on one.

Finally after waiting an eternity I've been able to preserve an Alpha 1. I got this a couple of weeks ago and have finished restoring it. Fired it up for the first time today. I'm now welding a bracket for it to mount on the wall. When all the Alpha 1's have disappeared from the streets it's going to be those in collections which will be the only ones left.

I've been looking through some old photos I've taken and I found this wonderful shot of a pre Worboys signs with an Alpha 1 in the background. I suspect both have now bitten the dust

Yes, now gone, except for the pole the sign was mounted on, that's still hanging on there!
