Yes, its one of those winter Sunday evenings between Christmas and New Year and so ... I do recall these oddities in Bury during the late 1960s and '70s when they always puzzled me. The town centre had several streets with these three bracketed posts carrying one sodium and two mercury lanterns as seen on this Flickr pic. I suspect it was an attempt to manage colour correction but I'd be grateful for any suggestions! I never recall any other UK town or city having them?

I seem to remember it being said that the SOX lights used to run dawn to dusk whereas the others run in conjunction during the evening only for increased lighting.

That seems plausible - it is such an odd arrangement.MotorwayGuy wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 21:01 I seem to remember it being said that the SOX lights used to run dawn to dusk whereas the others run in conjunction during the evening only for increased lighting.

They're all gone now of course.

Very unusual!
However I'm relieved to see that my interpretation of the title was wrong and that Bury Council has not equipped three of its street lights with guns!

I suppose it is one way to enforce traffic regulations ....the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 13:11 Very unusual!
