SGE red/green man signals... not SGE?

Post by traffic-light-man »

Hi all,

I've just been looking at that old Pathé video of the first Pelican Crossing, which has now been hidden behind a license wall, but is given as a larger series of stills instead.

One thing I noted in the stills, is something stamped to the bottom of the red/green man. What I think it says is 'Claudgen', who did indeed make things like illumination for signs, neon signs and display signs, that kind of thing. Perhaps these were manufactured by Claudgen for GEC (as it would have been by this time)?

Image showing 'CLAUDGEN' between the 'A' in 'Pathé' and 'N' in 'only'.

Old Claudgen advertisement showing a similar logo bottom centre.

EDIT: I've completely failed to notice the bit at the bottom of that advertisement stating that sales are via General Electric Company, so there is indeed a link there!

Just some food for thought!
