Street lighting at boundaries between highway authorities

Post by StockburyRoundabout »

On the A229 near me at Bridgewood, lighting was uniform with Thorn Triumphs. The lighting was when the roads in the area were widened and realigned in the early 2000s.

However, this area is on the boundary of Medway and Kent highway authorities so when Kent County Council upgraded to LED, this meant there were now different lanterns with there now being a mixture of the Triumphs and CU Phosco P852s.

At the border between Medway and Kent, the P582s start on the slip roads and are on the slip roads and Bridgewood, Lord Lees and Taddington roundabouts.

However, on the main A229 carriageway, the Triumphs continue until after the Lord Lees junction where P582s take over.

There seems to be a dispute between Medway and Kent councils as that dual carriageway is not managed by Highways England.

The lampposts over the Bridgewood flyover have also now been switched off whilst they remain on either side - why that is I don’t know.
Now with added Grade Separation!
