The A33/A35 goes over the top on the Redbridge Flyover.Chris Bertram wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 12:01It's a flat roundabout, isn't it? OK try some blue signs not under motorway regulations. It's a motorway service area being signposted so that must mean a blue sign?

Re: Green sign on the motorway?
On the main carriageway near that slip-road, shouldn't the A31 destinations be on a green patch, as it's the end of the M27?jervi wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 18:40 I'd agree with you. Although blue "For" signs are pretty uncommon, especially once you start putting green patches/panels in them.
What about this non-primary sign on a motorway exit slip with 11 destinations on it along with loads of other issues - https://www.google.com/maps/@50.9214874 ... 384!8i8192

No, because patching is not used on motorway mainlines approaching a slip road exit.Sunil_of_Yoxley wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 22:40On the main carriageway near that slip-road, shouldn't the A31 destinations be on a green patch, as it's the end of the M27?jervi wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 18:40 I'd agree with you. Arguably, it's because the section of road leading away from the diverge is still under motorway restrictions (as is the slip road) and so showing it as non-motorway would be incorrect, but I think mainly it's to keep the signs as clear and simple as possible.
Re: Green sign on the motorway?
Apart from the 1/2m sign, which is wrong because it should look like this on an all-purpose road referring to an MSA - https://goo.gl/maps/5WzpgQ6bMoTvvfwA7 - that is all correct.the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 22:12OK try some blue signs not under motorway regulations. It's a fair cop! It's amazing how much you can learn on here!Bryn666 wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 12:09 Apart from the 1/2m sign, which is wrong because it should look like this on an all-purpose road referring to an MSA - https://goo.gl/maps/5WzpgQ6bMoTvvfwA7 - that is all correct.

This is one area of the signing regulations that is very complex when it should be far simpler, it's easy to get these ones wrong.the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 12:58It's a fair cop! Re: Green sign on the motorway?
In passing: The M23 J9 spur now has three lanes each way?! Shows how long it is since I've been down there. It's a shame Covid stopped it having the traffic to justify it.

Only westbound, the hard shoulder was cannibalised as part of the smart motorway works.Road2Nowhere wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 14:31 In passing: The M23 J9 spur now has three lanes each way?! Re: Green sign on the motorway?
I think this is a worse example.
It would IMO be quite reasonable to sign through non-motorway traffic off at some form of "inner ring road", rather than right through the city centre.
Having cycled there, being thoroughly lost, it was very fortunate that I was heading from the City Centre to the A65. Had I been heading to the city centre, it's quite possible that I would have interpreted that as being able to follow the A58 to the city centre before the A58(M) starts, not the start of the A58(M)!It would IMO be quite reasonable to sign through non-motorway traffic off at some form of "inner ring road", rather than right through the city centre.

Re: Green sign on the motorway?
The line on patching down on motorway signs appears to be that if the junction itself is not under motorway regulations, then you patch down the exits.
Re: Green sign on the motorway?
A10 should just be in brackets on the main sign.
What is it with people who do signs in the UK? Every journey you go you will find one that isn’t compliant.
Though roads may not put a smile on everyone's face, there is one road that always will: the road to home.
