UV Zebra

Post by traffic-light-man »

I stumbled across this while out and about, and thought it was worthy of a quick mention (I don't think it's been mentioned yet, anyway).

There's an article here.

I have to say, I'm aware of the reaction that some colours of clothing has with UV or even lower spectrum blue lighting, but I'm not sure even the majority of crossing users will be wearing any of it for this to be all that effective, but perhaps I'm missing the point!

If you waited long enough would you get a tan?

Let's not mention that the zebra markings are unlawful.
Patience is not a virtue - it's a concept invented by the dozy beggars who are unable to think quickly enough.

The DfT don't seem to have objected to it when they were approached about it. This crossing is in Darwen and is an experiment to try and avoid the effects of LED glare from badly placed floodlights which drown out pedestrians as this crossing is on a walking route to a primary school across a major A road - hence the surface treatment to appeal to children walking.

At night it looks quite good, you can see people waiting clearly. Far better than being blinded by floodlights or having those f'ing stupid internally lit Belisha poles.

Yeah, it reminds of the ultraviolet lighting occasionally used in public toilets so you can't see the veins on your arm. Definitely not a welcoming ambience for a zebra crossing.
