Odd Footpath sign

Post by Big Nick »

I went to South Weald Country Park with my Dad a while back and on the way out we passed this sign. The dark green is normal for Essex CC footpaths. I feel this dates back to the 1980s going by the ⅓ symbol.

What struck me was the mixed metric and imperial distances which I've only noticed on footpath signs. OS maps are metric and use km so that makes sense but in talking terms we are more likely to say we walked for 3 miles.

That looks older than 1980s - I'd go as far as saying early 1970s which would be around the time when people were keen to experiment with metrication of signs.

And the oddity that it's labelled as 2 times 1 Kelvin metres.

Well, we signed weight limits in Teslas for years.
