The longest stop line
Typically stop lines are quite short due to them only existing where there is limited sightlines where typically the road is constrained on either side as well. However I've seen some long stop lines around and I wonder if there are any others that are 25m+?

Re: The longest stop line
Oh dear these don't look right at all. The first example in particular doesn't look at all like it meets the visibility criteria for a stop line. And in both examples the elongated splay would be there to allow left turning traffic to accelerate to join the main road (with a Diagram 1010 line extending beyond the normal give way lines, though these don't appear to be prescribed for junctions with single carriageway mainlines now)
If stop lines are justified the correct thing to do would be to hatch out the splays, though there is the added complication on the second example with one of the pub car park accesses leading onto the main road

Given both those stop lines were in place prior to 2016, I'd be highly surprised if the Secretary of State issued the necessary authorisation for the installation of either marking. Visibility looks pretty reasonable at both locations so the highway authorities in question must have had quite a compelling alternative justification to present to the SoS.

Obviously different rules in Scotland but there's a slip road off the A74(M) which also has a stop sign.Bfivethousand wrote: ↑Sat Sep 25, 2021 00:53 Given both those stop lines were in place prior to 2016, I'd be highly surprised if the Secretary of State issued the necessary authorisation for the installation of either marking. Now, I'm no expert on signs.... but the A23 and A74(M) are similar vintage. What 90s design failure has provided these slip roads with poor visibility?

Re: The longest stop line
This one springs to mind, as well as being fairly recent. It was a give way initially, but I'm not even sure the road had opened before it was changed to a stop.

Re: The longest stop line
In Ireland stop signs are basically mandatory at all junctions so long stop lines at junctions with good visibility is fairly common:

Even in some residential areas:

I'm not sure if any of these examples are 25m but there are definitely lots over here.
