In 1967 did A2(M) exist (west of M2 J1) as shown on this map?

This 1967 map shows M2 (from right to left) from J3 to J1.

But then the next road to the west of this (today's A2), is shown as A2(M).

Did A2(M) ever appear on signs, or is this just a mapping error?

I think it's just an error. I remember reading news articles about the M2 in 1963-4. I didn't know until decades later that there had ever been a plan to call it A2(M).

The map shows the number against a section of A2 that was upgraded to grade-separated D3 standard a few years after completion of the M2.

It's a possibly understandable mistake as the section in question was then wider than the adjacent motorway.

Looks like there's also something a bit odd going on with that blue line from J4 to Gillingham as well!
