A5125

Post by Chris Bertram »

In the Wiki, there is one entry for A5125. It is listed as the former Leicester western by-pass, which was downgraded when the current A563 Outer Ring was opened.

However, I think I've found a new current incarnation for it. In the centre of Loughborough, A512 approaches from the west, crosses A6004 Epinal Way, and heads for the town centre along Ashby Road. However, before reaching the centre, A512 turns left along Broad Street to meet A6 Derby Road, where it ends. Straight ahead, according to this on Streetmap, is a new A5125, which heads along Derby Square and ends ... on an unclassified road, Swan Street, which was the former A6, since diverted around the other side of the town centre.

Is this evidence good enough? What other corroboration do we need? Leicestershire CC's website is no help here.

See here also http://www.dft.gov.uk/traffic-counts/cp ... hire#18405

It's blank in the LCC list of classified roads though.

Lots of C roads on there too.

Interesting. I suggest that it may be worth an article, but one containing caveats concerning the scant evidence. I bet it's not signed on the ground.

From the SABRE Wiki: A5125 :

There appears to be a currently (2017) extant route of A5125 in Loughborough, Leicestershire; though the evidence is confused and sketchy.

At the time of writing, the number does not appear to exist in the records of Leicestershire County Council. However, it appears on Department for Transport traffic count data, and also on Ordnance Survey mapping within their Streetmap product.

However, the OS mapping data is confusing at best. It shows

Is this a case where we need to keep the page for the defunct road, and also create one for the new discovery?

EDIT: I see that's what we now have.

Yeah, we should have pages for every example of every road number ever. Including obvious mapping errors!
