B180 history

Post by roadphotos »

It doesn't appear to have anything on the Sabre Wiki about the history of the B180 and the fact that it used to go from the A1170 at Hoddesdon to St Margarets near Stansted Abbotts in Hertfordshire. All of the information is about the existing route of the road to the east of Stansted Abbotts. The sign on the A1170 at the first roundabout when approaching Hoddesdon from the A10 still incorrectly says B180 left in brackets even though the road was downgraded in around the early 1980s.

The road linking Hoddesdon with Stanstead Abbotts was the B179 (Hertfordshire) and later became A1032 (Hertfordshire).

Cheers

From the SABRE Wiki: B179 (Hertfordshire) :

The original route of the B179 was parallel to the A10 in Hertfordshire.

The B179 started in the centre of Hoddesdon on what was the A10 and headed north out of town along Burford Street. It went through Rye Park and ended in Stanstead St Margaret's on the A414 (now B181).

The B179 was upgraded to Class I status
