A138 history

Post by roadphotos »

There doesn't appear to be anything on the SABRE Wiki about the fact that the A138 used to go through the middle of Chelmsford via Parkway (now A1060). When the A130 was diverted around Chelmsford via White Hart Lane in 1989 the old A130 through the middle of Chelmsford became the A138. The Chelmer Valley Road and Parkway became the A138 when the A130 was rerouted around Chelmsford when the Essex Regiment Way opened to traffic in 1989. The A138 then took the current route from the Army and Navy to the A12 at the Boreham Interchange. The A138 through the middle of Chelmsford (Parkway) was later renumbered as part of the A1060 and the Chelmer Valley Route was renumbered as the A1016. I believe this remembering happened around the year 2002. Also another bit of useful information is that the SABRE Wiki needs updating around Bedford. The Branston Way (Bedford Western By-Pass) has now been renumbered as part of the A6 and most of the signs have now been changed. The road was the A428 and this is what it says on the SABRE Wiki. I hope that this is helpful.
